CRIPPLE WALL BRACING
What is a Crippled Wall? Cripple walls are the little vertical framing, also known as stud walls made of wood that surround a crawling area (which holds electricity, water lines, etc.) beneath the first floor of a house, in touch with the soil gradient to assist the end of the floor joists. Because of the cripple wall’s load-bearing capacity, this area can become compromised in the event of a large earthquake, causing damage to the foundation and/or total collapse.
CRIPPLE WALL PROBLEMS 1.HOME CRIPPLE WALL FOUNDATION So, the cripple wall is wedged in there good and tight, but often is not properly attached to either the home or foundation itself. 2. YOUR HOME COULD SLIDE RIGHT OFF OF YOUR FOUNDATION IF YOUR CRIPPLE WALL FAILS. Don’t let your home’s cripple wall go the way of the buffalo, the way of gravity – secure it.
