51 ΒΕΥΟΝD THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA Clownfish The clownfish lives in the warm waters of tropical oceans and seas at depths from 1 to 15 metres. The clownfish can be identified by its orange colour with three white bars, one in the head, one in the middle and one at the tail, which have a black border. It can reach a length of 10-18 centimetres. It feeds on algae and zooplankton. The clownfish usually lives in the tentacles of three species of marine anemones. The tentacles of the anemone kill other fish except for the clownfish. Anemones protect the clownfish from enemies and the clownfish in turn cleans the anemone by eating its leftovers and chases away the anemone’s enemies, which can eat the tentacles without being harmed.
