LITTLE FREE LIBRARY Compass is delighted to be part of the community of free libraries in Lake Worth. The first bookcase inside Compass’ Grand Hall is a Little Free Library. DAVID BOHNETT CYBERCENTER In 2003, Compass opened the first gay and lesbian cyber center in Florida with the help of the David Bohnett Foundation. The cyber center features 12 Apple iMac computers and is open to the community during center hours. HEALTH SERVICES In 1994, Compass expanded its services to include Case Management services for people living with HIV and AIDS. The program assists clients in identifying appropriate service options by providing guidance and instructions with documents to ease the process to obtain medical assistance. MEDICAL/NON-MEDICAL CASE MANAGEMENT Each year, Compass provides life-saving services to more than 450 People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) through: Supportive Case Management (Non-Medical) Comprehensive Case Management (Medical) Prescription drugs through AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) Ryan White Health Insurance Premium assistance (RWHI) Mental Health counseling Prescription drug co-payment assistance Linkage to oral health care, food services, transportation services, legal assistance, medical insurance coverage, eye care, and other supportive services. Services are available by appointment in Spanish, Creole and other languages. COMMUNITY EDUCATION SERIES To engage the community and raise awareness of medical advances, resources and issues surrounding HIV and those living with HIV/AIDS, the Health Services Department hosts periodic education evenings. At the meetings held at the center, dinner is served and guest speakers discuss topics that are relevant to those who participate. It is free to participate, but RSVPs are required. Facts HIV is still affecting the world. An alarming number of new infections are diagnosed every day. Compass’ Health Services have provided more than 450 individuals with access to life-saving services through Ryan White funding. More than 6,400 hours of counseling have been provided to those living with HIV/AIDS and their families. In a national study, 40% of transgender adults reported having made a suicide attempt. 92% of these individuals reported having attempted suicide before the age of 25. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people ages 10 to 24. At Compass, LGBTQ youth and their allies engage in social support, community service, arts & cultural activities, educational, and leadership opportunities. We strive to ensure all youth in Palm Beach County are safe from discrimination and harassment, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression. More than 1,000 youth and their families have accessed services through our Youth program since its inception, making it one of the longest running and largest LGBTQ youth programs in the southeast United States. STREET PAINTING FESTIVAL Each year, the Compass Youth Program participates in the Lake Worth Street Painting Festival.This two-day event allows our youth to engage in a creative expression and participate in the community. A design is picked, and over the weekend, our youth bring that design to life on the streets of Lake Worth. In addition to creating their own art, the youth see the creative expressions of a myriad of participants. LEGACY PROJECT Compass has partnered with Palm Beach Dramaworks for a major collaboration.The Legacy Project is an intergenerational story telling project in which LGBTQ leaders and trailblazers were interviewed by LGBTQ Youth. The Legacy Project is presented on a night in the autumn at Palm Beach Dramaworks and features a mix of live performance and digital stories projected to the audience.
