Scottish Team Selection Procedure 2018 It is the policy of the SCTA to promote a performance based selection procedure.Everyone who competes in a selection shoot is a potential team member.There is no requirement to submit a team selection form for any discipline.Shooters scores and ranking place will be shown in the SCTA database Team Selection table forthe relevant discipline. A marked-up points system will be used for the Sporting discipline.Providing shooters satisfy all selection criteria and general conditions decided by theManagement Board of the SCTA or a properly constituted Selection Committee they willconsidered for Selection.It is the shooter’s responsibility to ensure they comply with the General conditions of eligibilityand eligible scores and all other requirements as laid down by the SCTAGeneral conditionsIf a shooter does not have enough scores they will not qualify. If a shooter does not have anarea championship score they will not qualify. If a shooter does not compete in the relevantScottish Championship they will not qualify. If a shooter does not want to be considered forteam selection they should inform the relevant discipline representative. Members must abideby all discipline specific rules.The Management Board’s decision is final in all selection matters as detailed in section 3 and 4of the By-laws.Membership and Eligibility for Team Selection:Only fully paid up members of the SCTA are eligible for Team places. Membership starts on the5th January, and membership renewal should be paid before that date. For existing or lapsedmembers their membership renewal must be received before the 1st March of the currentyear for the shooter to be eligible for selection. Membership renewal payments will beaccepted up until the 1st March, however scores from selection shoots after the 31stDecember till the date the membership fee is paid will not count towards team selection.New members may join the SCTA at any time during the year and if they comply with all otherrequirements they will be eligible for Scottish Team selection.The Management Board reserve the right to refuse a team place to any member who, byprevious conduct, is considered by the board to be unsuitable to represent Scotland. TheManagement Board also reserve the right to select shooters by invitation in order to maketeams up to full numbers or as near as possible full numbers, on recommendation of therelevant discipline selection committee. A discipline selection committee should consist of 8

Management Board members, discipline representatives, team managers, and if possible teamCaptains.International team Dress Code:Shooting in practice or at the International event, you are required to wear a Scotland Shootingvest. Other than the jacket manufacturer’s, the only badges allowed are your name above thebreast pocket, a Scotland Team badge on the breast pocket, discipline flashes and year flashes.ISSF disciplines must comply with the ISSF clothing rules applying at the time.Trousers or a Scottish Kilt can be worn while shooting but in the case of the latter it must beworn with the correct accompanying accessories. A shirt or jersey with long or short sleeves,not sleeveless and a normal shooting hat.For the Team photographs and prize giving banquet, dark blue blazer with Scotland blazerbadge, grey trousers, dark socks, black shoes, white shirt with a Scotland Team member tie.Ladies may opt for a grey or tartan skirt or grey trousers, variances in tartans are acceptable.Ladies may wear a Scotland team member cravat.New caps will receive a subsidy of £30 towards their first Scotland shooting jacket. Nopatterned camouflage wear or equipment of any sort is permitted. It is the responsibility of the shooter to advise any requested change incategory. If no request has been made the default categories will be applied.For example, a Lady can opt to shoot in the senior team, a Lady Junior may opt to shoot in theJunior and not Lady category, a Veteran may opt to shoot in the Senior category etc., beforethe Scottish Championship. The relevant number of qualifying scores for that category mustbe attained to be considered. Once this choice has been made, that shooter will be judgedagainst the other competitors in that category for a team place. If that shooter does not qualifyin the chosen category then that shooter MAY be offered a different category place if there is 9

a place available and their scores qualify them.It is advisable to shoot more than the minimum number of scores required for clearly obviousreasons.Junior teams. A member must be under the age of 21 on the 1st January in the year of theInternational to qualify as a Junior. Proof of age is required; other age restrictions apply forEire and Northern Ireland.Veteran teams. A member must be over the age of 55 on 1st January in the year of theinternational to qualify as a Veteran. Proof of age required.Super Veterans Team: A member must be over the age of 65 on 1st January in the year ofthe international to qualify as a Super Veteran. Proof of age requiredLadies Teams.To qualify for the Ladies category a person must be of female gender at birth, or be a male tofemale transsexual. Individuals who have undergone gender reassignment after puberty areeligible for participation in their acquired gender providing that they have lived fully in theacquired gender for at least two years. The individual will be required to provide originaldocumentation or certified copies to be held by the SCTA of the following: A. Written confirmation from the individual’s GP that all required surgical anatomical changes have been completed two years prior to the application and that hormonal therapy has been administered for a sufficient length of time to minimise any gender related advantages whilst clay target shooting. B. The Gender Recognition Certificate. C. The revised Birth Certificate if available.The above requirements are in accordance with the policy on transsexual competitors issuedby the International Olympic Committee and also conform with the recommendations set outin the UK Sport guidance booklet “Transsexual People and Sport” published by the Departmentfor Culture, Media and Sport.Ties for team placesTies for team and reserve positions will be resolved by a shoot-off under the relevant disciplinerules at the relevant Scottish Championship. Any shoot-off for these places must take place assoon as the results are known.Team Captain.The position of Captain of each Scottish Team will be offered to the team member with thehighest score following the completion of the selection procedure. (scores for competitions ofmore than 100 targets will be averaged). Should the shooter decline it will be offered to the nexteligible shooter until the vacancy is filled.Any ties will be decided by a shoot-off in accordance with the rules applying to team places aspreviously outlined.In order to be eligible for Team Captain shooters must be a minimum of 18 years of age on the1st of January of the year of the Home International and have previously represented Scotland.DTL Captain(s)The Overall Scottish Team Captain will be the Captain of the Senior Team,Captains for the remaining categories will offered to the Team member with the highestaggregate score from each category. 10

Scores from other ICTSC affiliated bodies and Events outside Scotland: The best 2 scores ashooter achieves from affiliated bodies will be recognised for team selection providing correctvalidation is supplied, if from a GB Selection Shoot, Grand Prix, British Open, Home CountryChampionship, (not Home International) or from a selection shoot held by any recognised claytarget governing body. It will be the responsibility of the competitor to provide theAssociation via the discipline representative or administrator proof of their score achievedat such an event along with (in the case of Sporting) the winner’s score, this can be in paperform verified by an official from the host ground or association or in electronic form providedthe results of the competition are in the public domain (i.e., website or internet). The resultscan be posted by surface mail or by e-mail, but must be received by the appropriate personwithin 21 days. It will be the responsibility of the competitor to check that the event is validfor team selection.Carry forward scores: A maximum of 2 scores can be carried forward from shoots heldbetween the Scottish Championship in the preceding year and 31st December. Otherwise allthe required scores must be obtained between 1st January and before the allotted cutoff datebefore the relevant Scottish Championship, (see membership and eligibility) this being the endof the open selection period. Where scores are obtained from a 2-day shoot of 200 targets ormore, which takes place between the Scottish Championship and 31st December in thepreceding year then no further scores may be carried forward.Members who are Permanently Resident Out with Scotland: An MPROS may use a maximumof 3 scores from registered or selection shoots obtained from at least 2 different grounds intheir country of residence. (If such scores are used then rules outlined above apply) Failing thisthe scores in question will be disregarded. MPROS must use a SCTA membership number atshoots out with Scotland if they intend the score to be used for team selection.2 Day shoots: Where a shoot is held over 2 days, the 2 days scores cannot be split if acompetitor completes both days. If for any reason a competitor only completes 1 day then thefirst day CANNOT be used but the second day CAN be used. Where a 2-day shoot is of less than200 targets (e.g. Olympic disciplines) the calculated percentage score will be used.)Type and number of shootsScottish ChampionshipMembers must compete in and complete the requisite number of shoots, including therelevant Scottish Championship. If the Scottish Championship is a 2-day competition then allcategories must compete and complete in both days competition.Area ChampionshipsAt least 1 (one) Area Championship MUST be included in the required number of shoots. Thisapplies to all disciplines and all categories i.e. Senior, Lady, Junior, Veteran and Super Veteran.DispensationThe requirement to compete in the relevant Scottish Championship may be waived at thediscretion of the Management Board on receipt of a request in writing at least 14 days prior 11

to the Championship (unless circumstances prevent this). This dispensation will only begranted after consideration by the Management Board for occasions such as a familybereavement, or if they have been selected to shoot in a clashing International, or if they arerepresenting GB in a team event, or on production of a medical certificate, or otherextenuating circumstances.If a dispensation is granted the shooter will have to shoot a nominated competition as analternative Championship and have the score witnessed. FITASC and NSP disciplines a maximum of 2 (two) scores from any one groundfor all categories.COMPULSORY AREA CHAMPIONSHIPS EXPLAINEDAs a part of the Scottish Team Selection Procedure shooters are required to shoot in at leastone compulsory Area Championship. Once a compulsory shoot score has been obtained thiswill be reflected in our database, for team league placement the highest score attained at anArea Championship will be used for team ranking, any other Area Championship scoreattained will still be used for Team selection but these scores will become ordinary selectionscores.In addition to the four normal Area Championships the ManagementBoard of the SCTA felt it was necessary to accommodate those members who live on theoutlying Islands to stay engaged in the team selection process without the need to travel tothe mainland on a certain date and as such we have provided these clubs the opportunityto hold one (1) Island Compulsory shoot in each discipline.All SCTA members can if they wish shoot at an Island compulsory shoot, but their score will beclassed as an ordinary selection shoot. Only an Islander may use their score as a compulsoryArea shoot. This ensures that everyone can only gain a benefit from an equal number of areacompulsories (4). If a shooter who shoots both a compulsory Island shoot and a South AreaChampionship only the score from the Island compulsory shoot can be used as a team rankingscore although the score from the South Area can still be used as an ordinary selection score.MPROS (Members permanently out with Scotland)do not have a designated Scottish area allocated to them and their membership card will reflectthis. 12
