Preposition ( คําบพุ บท) คําทใี ชแ้ สดงสถานที ตําแหน่ ง การเคลอื นไหว ทศิ ทาง เวลา ลกั ษณะ และความสัมพันธ์ คําบพุ บทในภาษาองั กฤษ อาจเปนคําคําเดยี ว เชน่ at, between, from สองคํา เชน่ next to, out of, across from หรอื สามคํา เชน่ in front of, in back of, on top of เปนตน้ คําบพุ บท ตามดว้ ยคํานาม คําสรรพนาม หรอื กลมุ่ คํานาม/นามวลี (noun phrase)

1.preposition of place ไดแ้ ก่ at, on, in

At ใชเ้ มอื กลา่ วถงึ จดุ หรอื ตําแหน่ งของพืนทหี รอื เนื อทที มี ี ลกั ษณะเปนมติ เิ ดยี ว ซงึ บอ่ ยครงั มกั เปนจดุ ในการเดนิ ทาง หรอื สถานทพี บปะ เชน่ The coach stops at Phitsanulok and Chiang Mai. Turn left at the traffic lights. See you at the bus stop.

At ยงั อาจใชเ้ มอื กลา่ วถงึ อาคารหรอื สถานทเี มอื เรากําลงั นึ กถงึ สิงทคี นทาํ ภายในอาคารหรอื สถานทเี หลา่ นั น เชน่ Busaba is a student at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University. Let's meet at the restaurant.

On ยงั สามารถใชเ้ มอื กลา่ วถงึ สถานทที ตี งั อยบู่ นเส้นหรอื แนว ( places on a line) เชน่ on the Nile, on the equator เปนตน้ The ancient town of Luxor is on the Nile. Kenya is on the equator, isn't it? My house is located on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road.

preposition of position/location เชน่ above ,across from , at the top of , at the bottom of , at the back of , behind/in back of , beside , between , by , in front of , in the middle of , near , next to , on top of , opposite, underneath เปนตน้ The light is above the desk. She lives in the room across from mine. I put your name at the top of the list. Can I borrow the book which is at the bottom of the pile?

Preposition of motion (คําบพุ บทแสดงการเคลอื นไหว) เชน่ away, from…to, into, through, toward(s), outof เปนตน้ We drove away after saying goodbye to everyone at the party. The salesperson traveled from city to city. The rescuers dived into the water to save the little girl's life.

Preposition of direction (คําบพุ บทแสดงทศิ ทาง) เชน่ across, along, up, away from, down, to, from เปนตน้ Many people live along both sides of the river. My daughter ran quickly into the house and went up the stairs. I got very angry with one of my employees, so I just walked away from her to calm down.

Preposition of time (คําบพุ บทแสดงเวลา)

at ใชก้ บั เวลาตามนา ิกาและในสํานวน เชน่ at dawn, at noon, at midday, at night, at midnight, at bedtime, at lunchtime, at dinnertime, at sunrise, at sunset, at present, at the moment, at the same time เปนตน้ The appointment is at 10:30. Jane works best at night. I'll see you at lunchtime.

นอกจากนี at ยงั ใชก้ บั วนั หยดุ สดุ สัปดาห์ ( weekend) และเทศกาล ( festival) ตา่ งๆ เมอื ตอ้ งการกลา่ วถงึ ชว่ งเวลานั นตลอดทงั ชว่ ง Did you have fun at the weekend? ( ตลอดชว่ งวนั หยดุ สดุ สัปดาห์) What are you doing at Christmas? ( ตลอดชว่ งเทศกาลครสิ ตม์ าส)

ขอให้สังเกตวา่ เมอื กลา่ วถงึ ฤดกู าลเปนการเฉพาะ ( อาจหมายถงึ ชว่ งเวลาใดเวลาหนึ งในฤดนู ั น) ไมใ่ ชก่ ลา่ ว ทวั ๆ ไป จะใช้ the นํ าหน้ าดว้ ยนอกจากนี in ยงั ใชใ้ น สํานวนดงั เชน่ in the morning/afternoon/evening ใน สํานวน in the night เมอื เปนการกลา่ วถงึ คืนใดคืนหนึ ง เปนการเฉพาะ (มกั ใชใ้ นกรณีของคืนวนั ทผี า่ นมา) และใน สํานวน in the past, in the future We went to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in the afternoon. I had a horrible dream in the night. What would you like to do in the future?

On ใชก้ บั วนั ตา่ งๆ ของสัปดาห์ วนั ทแี ละในสํานวน เชน่ on Monday morning, on Friday evening, on Saturday night, on the weekend, เปนตน้ Annie's baby was born on Monday. His birthday is on March 5. Are you doing anything on Saturday night? What do you usually do on the weekend?

before ( กอ่ น) We got there before anyone else. Have you met David before ? I had a job interview at an import-export company the day before yesterday .

after ( ภายหลงั หลงั จาก) I'll be home after dinner. It is a quarter after ten o'clock. Can you come and see me again the day after tomorrow?
