Junior Music Festival 2022

The annual Junior Music Festival has always been one of my highlights in the School calendar as an event in which every Junior School student will enjoy both the opportunity and experience of performing on stage. I have missed this special event but we are thrilled that after a two-year hiatus, the event is back! The Performing Arts is an area in which all students at Redlands have a variety of opportunities to be involved in, both within our curriculum and cocurricular offerings, as will be showcased tonight. I have no doubt that the 2022 Junior Music Festival, School of Rock, will also take many of us in the audience back through time and perhaps evoke a memory or two from years gone by, as music has the magical power to do. My heartfelt appreciation is extended to our team of passionate and inspirational Music teachers and tutors who have prepared the students for this evening’s show and the many other staff who have worked behind the scenes, or will do so this evening, to support the event. What better way to celebrate the 14th Annual Junior Music Festival than by rocking it out with the genre’s greatest hits, bringing together some of the world’s most celebrated artists; from Elvis to Queen, and everything in between! Today’s selection of repertoire will no doubt have you toe tapping and head nodding as we journey through the unparalleled history of Rock. Students have been busy in Terms 2 and 3 learning about Rock music through weekly curriculum and cocurricular experiences, enhancing skills in performing, listening and composing using a range of repertoire. Our mantra of ‘practice makes progress’ has certainly been evident as we have seen the exponential growth of our young musicians this year, particularly after a challenging time juggling online learning and modified performance opportunities over the past two years. Junior School students, staff and the wider community come together today to celebrate the joy and hope that music brings to our world. We acknowledge the remarkable achievements of all the students in the Junior School and share in their pride as they present items that reflect their musical learning throughout Semester One. Redlands offers all students the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of music experiences within our curricular, cocurricular and extracurricular streams. Our weekly Curricular Music classes in Years 3 to 6 are richly embedded with solo and ensemble music-making experiences, with all year groups in Years 3 to 5 combining once a week for whole cohort music-making experiences incorporating Choral & instrumental opportunities. Year 3 Choral & Strings Year 4 MIP (Strings, Band & Orchestra) Year 5 MIP (Strings, Band & Orchestra) In addition to curriculum learning experiences, Redlands offers further enrichment opportunities before, during and after school hours for K-6 students across a range of Cocurricular and Extracurricular activities, including small and large ensembles as well as private tuition for instrumental learning, sound engineering and musicianship.
