Dispatcher Susan Salter December 3, 1963 - January 30, 2022 In January of 2022, we lost a beloved member of the Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue Family, Dispatcher Susan Salter. We dedicate the TFR 2022 Annual Report in her memory. When the announcement was made on the approval to start the new Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue Communications Division, Susan was the first to transfer. It was said that she made TFR Communications better, simply because she cared.

Mission Statement
TFR is comprised of 259 certified personnel and 19 staff personnel. We respond to emergency and non-emergency calls from 11 stations located throughout the city and with personnel from the various divisions within the department. We a maintain daily minimum staffing of 62 certified personnel and 3 dispatchers, 24 hours a day.
In 2022 TFR processed 17, 234 calls for service within the city and surrounding communities. In 2022, Assistant Training Officer, Captain Glen Nelson developed the \" New Hire Academy\" for all newly hired certfied personnel to complete. The course started as a five day class and has quickly evolved into a 7 day and eventually 10 day course.
Course Topics: 6 PPE (personal protective Courses equipment) & SCBA (self- Completed contained breathing apparatus) Forcible Entry Search & Rescue Ladders Hose & Water Supply Communications Ventilation Extrication Live Fire EMS The course is designed to focus each day on one of the major components of working a firefighting job. This gives the newly hired firefighters a foundation before being assigned to a station to begin a year long evaluation period with their officer.
