Mission, Goals & Values

About the Department Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue is 247 a full time career 6 department serving a metropolitan area of 13 over 99,000 City residents and up to 8,400 University of Alabama on Campus residents. SupFpirreession Emergency Technical Medical Services Response The department has evolved into a true multifaceted response organization. The department responds from 11 Stations and operates on 3 shifts with a minimum of 59 firefighters working each 24- hour shift.

Notable Incidents of 2021 Temerson Square Shooting: April 2 Units were dispatched to a report of an active shooter outside a bar on 4th street. Upon arrival, units found 2 patients with gunshot wounds. Patients were treated and transported to DCH. Off-duty Firefighter Conner Shelton was recognized for providing care without hesitation. Cypress Creek Landfill Fire: May 22 Multiple units responded to a fire at the landfill. Crews remained on scene to monitor the fire throughout the night. The Drone was utilized to assist Incident Commander. Liberty Recycling Center: May & June Multiple Companies, Battalions 1 & 2 responded to two significant fires at the recycling plant. No injuries were reported. Flash Flooding: September Units responded to numerous request for assistance. At Greensboro Ave and 24th an SUV was discovered partially submerged. Technical Response Team personnel checked for the vehicle for victims. A search was performed until dark. The next morning units were deploying to the area to continue searching, when the victim was discovered by a civilian.

Notable Incidents of 2021 Structure Fire at Daycare: October 28 Approximately 5 a.m. units responded to assist Duncanville VFD at a unoccupied daycare. Heavy smoke was coming from the structure when units arrived. Fire was extinguished with no injuries. Old Buttermilk Rd Structure Fire: Nov 5 Civilian rescued female occupant prior to units arriving. Victim was treated and transported to DCH. The fire was extinguished without additional injuries. Cottondale House Explosion and Structure Fire Dec: 13 Units arrived to find heavy fire conditions. Three occupants reported to be in the structure. Two self rescued. While extinguishing the fire, crews located a victim in the rear of the structure. Search and Recovery of missing UA Student: Nov 8 TFR and TPD divers conduct a two day search of the Black Warrior River. Approximately 4p.m. on the second day, the victim was located and recovered.

Dispatched Incidents Fire & EMS: 16,861 Fire and EMS incidents transmitted to the appropriate response units. Communications Division staffs three personnel on each 12-hour shift which includes one supervisor and two dispatchers.
