Around the Temple 3 For the past six months, we have used the standard Reform IN PREPARATION prayerbook, Mishkan T’Filah during our Shabbat services. We FOR THIS YEAR’S wanted to use this prayerbook because it provides an innovative visual component, allowing our streaming audience to see the YOM KIPPUR liturgy on the screen. As the standard prayerbook of the Reform YIZKOR SERVICE Movement, it also provides worship liturgy which is consistent with what is being used by congregations across the country. Our Yom Kippur Memorial Book & Memorial Plaque When we were finally able to have in-person worship once information should arrive again in March, we also provided hardcopies of Mishkan T’Filah in the pews. in the mail to you in early Now that more people can attend in-person services (and still provide the visual component for our large streaming audience), we plan to continue to pray from July. In the meantime, Mishkan T’Filah for our weekly worship services. MITZVAH DAY 2021 We congratulate and celebrate Violet and Tillman. MAZEL TOV! Our Teen Foundation Offers Grants After Their Year of Learning and Discovery in a Different Kind of Way! Combining elements of teen philanthropy, community service and leadership development, this cutting-edge youth program was pioneered as a way to engage our 8th & 9th graders in doing important mitzvah work while having fun. The Teen Foundation teaches about tzedakah (charity), gimilut chasadim (deeds of kindness) and tikkun olam (repairing the world) through online visits to local not-for-profit organizations doing great work in our community to help those in need. They decide to whom they would like to make grants from their “Teen Foundation” at the end of the year. They each make a pledge to individually raise an amount of money. All the funds are combined at the end of the year and the students decide how to divide the money among the agencies. They also approach other philanthropists in the community to generate matching funds. This year the students selected two agencies to receive grants from their foundation. Both Family Promise and the Humane Society received grants of $530.00. We are so proud of our students and their commitment to making a difference.
