Following her MA, she was asked to be an Art Historian at UAB as Service with choir at 6:00 pm an Adjunct. She spent 17 years teaching “Renaissance Through Contemporary Art.” As a member of Temple Emanu-El for about 60 years and a supporter and April 23 collector of contemporary art, her appreciation of the arts now allows Shirley to share her knowledge and passion. We have had another very well attended joyful Tot Shabbat on Richard Cohn March 3rd, followed by a fun and full house Megillah reading Robert Cohn & Purim Carnival on March 5th. Many thanks to our Temple Linda Cohn Sisterhood for sponsoring the Purim Carnival and making so many kids of all ages Alicia Collins happy. Our community wide 3rd – 7th grade Sunday afternoon program we call Deanna Danalevich Magic City Mensches was all about Israel and led by our Israeli teens Zohar and Andy Dickerson Ma’ayan, was held on March 12th. Sallie Downs Helene Elkus On Friday, March 17th, our 3rd graders, and our religious school choirs did us proud Richard Epstein in leading prayers and Shabbat songs. On Sunday, March 19th, our K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Cathy Friedman graders enjoyed a true story by children’s author and Temple member Mary Anne Carley Holt Freeman who read her book “Let’s Roll, Oliver” and answered some interesting Benjamin Kanter questions from students. Each student received the book “Let’s Roll, Oliver” as a Noah Leibovitz gift from our Grafman Endowment Fund. Around Our Temple 9 HONOR YOM HASHOAH BAR MITZVAH BY REMEMBERING THOSE WHO PERISHED IN THE HOLOCAUST Micah Smith Saturday, April 29th, at 10 am . Micah Smith will be called to the Torah on Saturday, April 29th, at 10 am. He is THE PERFECT FILM FOR ALL AGES. the son of Benjamin and Jennifer Smith and big brother to Joel. Micah is in the 7th grade Made possible by the Cantor Brian Miller Cultural at Simmons Middle School where his favorite Arts Fund and the Muncy Harris Abroms Cultural subject is Math. He enjoys playing the piano and trumpet, tennis, basketball, and spending Arts Fund of the Grafman Endowment Fund. time with his dogs and family. He is also active in Boy Scouts and volunteers regularly with the Shelby County Special Olympics bowling team. Micah attends summer camp at URJ Henry S. Jacobs Camp in Utica, MS, and appreci- ates all the friendships he has made there. Along with the important friendships, camp has helped to solidify his Jewish identity and further his Jewish education.
