PRAYERS Creator of life and light, we bless Thee this day for the beauty of this world, for sun- shine and flowers, storm, cloud and starry night, for the first radiance of dawn and the last smouldering glow of the sunset. We thank Thee for physical joys; for the ec- stasy of swift motion, for deep water to swim in, for the goodly smell of rain on dry ground, for hills to climb and hard work to do, for all skill of hand and eye, for music that lifts our hearts in one breath to heaven, and, for the hand-grasp of a friend -J S Hoyland ……………………………….. The day returns and brings us back to our round of duties. Help us to perform our tasks with laughter and kind faces. Let cheerfulness abound with industry. Let us go blithely on our business all this day; bring us to our resting beds weary and content and undishonored, and grant us in the end the gift of sleep …………………………………. Master, give us this day hard work to do, work that will tax us and strain us, work that will stretch our muscles and engross our minds, work that will employ our pow- ers of body and intellect and heart. If our work this day be study and training for life, reveal unto us our responsibility for the future, wherewith we may fight the battle of righteousness and truth, vanquishing error, oppression and wrong. If our work be the training and teaching of others, then make our minds pure and humble, that no strain of selfishness or lethargy, of mean purpose or low ideals, may mar thus weighty and honourable service which has been committed to our charge. …………………………………. In some ways we are evil, O God – help us to see it and amend. In some ways we are good – help us to be better. Recreate in us the sense of joy and the sense of the power of good. ….....………………………... Make me strong in spirit, Courageous in action, Gentle of heart, Let me act in wisdom, Conquer my fear and doubt, Discover my own hidden gifts, Meet others with compassion, Be a source of healing energies, And face each day with hope and joy. - Abby Willowroot

COURAGE God, give me courage To do what is right; Courage to speak, And courage to fight For honesty, goodness, Justice and truth; Courage to choose The good in my youth. Courage to own when I'm in the wrong; Courage to face The day with a song, Courage to guard My thoughts and my tongue; Courage to choose The right when I am young. WHERE THE MIND IS WITHOUT FEAR Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high Where knowledge is free Where the world has not been broken up into fragments By narrow domestic walls Where words come out from the depth of truth Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit Where the mind is led forward by Thee Into ever-widening thought and action Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake. Rabindra Nath Tagore
