SHIKSHANKUR THE GLOBAL SCHOOL G7 VOL II ED. 2 MON 31 MAY 2021 From the editor’s desk Dear reader, greetings to you! Do we ever give a thought as to who are the people who make our lives comfortable and hassle free? Are they not the ones who keep our houses tidy, do the dishes, drive us to school and do all those tasks that require elbow grease? They are our humble helpers. A very happy belated ‘Labour day’! As you may be knowing labour day falls on 1st of May. Some people celebrate it as a day to thank and be grateful to the labourers and different people who help us in our day-to-day chores. But nowadays it seems the day has lost its significance as not many acknowledge or are thankful to the people who help them. This day is forgotten by many and the people whom we are celebrating it for are often taken for granted. So, why don't we try and make this day special for the people who help us. Workers, plumbers, drivers, peons and all these kind people who work their fingers to the bone. We can show our gratitude to them by small caring gestures be it helping them financially or in any other way. Kindness can go a long way, they say. 1
SHIKSHANKUR THE GLOBAL SCHOOL G7 VOL II ED. 2 MON 31 MAY 2021 Why don't we take an initiative to make their lives better? We can help them by educating their children. Many of us have learnt in our Karuna sessions that the UN has 17 SDG goals that we need to target in order to make the Earth not only a liveable place but a paradise. Now is the time to apply our learning. We have learnt about the importance of the 4th SDG goal that is ‘Quality Education’. And everyone deserves a good education be it the privileged ones or those who belong to the vulnerable strata of society. It’s been often observed that some people aspire to get a good education but are not able to do so because their poverty does not allow it. Poverty is a big hindrance in their path to progress. And that's why due to unfortunate circumstances they are forced to give up their dreams and do jobs which do not require qualification and thus, their dreams are dashed. Why don't we spare some time for the children of our maids and teach them or contribute in a way that would help them to fulfil their dreams. There are opportunities often knocking at our doors inspiring us to do a noble deed and change someone's life through our small acts of kindness. Let this Labour Day fill our hearts with empathy for these special 2 people in our lives and bring never fading smiles to their faces. On behalf of our entire editorial team, I wish you a super relaxing vacation which rejuvenates you and fills you with vigour to stay alive and kicking. ~ Ira Srivastava
SHIKSHANKUR THE GLOBAL SCHOOL G7 VOL II ED. 2 MON 31 MAY 2021 My Perspective Importance of technology in our daily lives The latest technology and gadgets have become an inseparable part of our daily lives. They make our lives easier and faster, like the latest computers with super-fast speed display information on the screen or transfer it in the blink of an eye. 5g or 5th generation is the latest wireless internet technology and the advancements in this field are happening very swiftly. Though this is the second year in a row when our learning is happening virtually and within this short span of time there have been noticeable changes in this sphere. And the most commendable thing is human beings adapting to this change very easily. In the bygone age, 17th century people used to write letters to their family members and friends, and it took days or weeks for a letter to reach its destination but now we can reply to our relatives within a second. Now we have become so accustomed to using the latest, the fastest and the best technology to the extent that we cannot survive without things like laptops , vehicles , mobiles and electricity. The sophistication of technology is an irreversible process and the day is not far off when our lifestyle will completely transform because of these advancements. ~ Sudhanshu Thapliyal 3
SHIKSHANKUR THE GLOBAL SCHOOL G7 VOL II ED. 2 MON 31 MAY 2021 A Tribute to a Legend RABINDRANATH TAGORE Rabindranath Tagore is a well-known poet, writer, philosopher, composer, playwright, painter, and social reformer; in a nutshell a versatile genius. He was born on 7th May 1861 in Kolkata. Some of his notable works are Ghare-baire, Gora, Gitanjali to name a few. He became the first non-European as well as the first lyricist to win the Nobel Prize in literature in 1913. Sometimes Rabindranath Tagore is also referred to as the Bard of Bengal. His compositions have been chosen by two nations as their national anthem which are India(Jana Gana Mana) and Bangladesh (Amar Shona Bangla). His stories and poems are a true reflection of life. His writings are interspersed with pearls of wisdom, out of them I 4 find the quote “IF YOU SHUT THE DOOR TO ALL ERRORS, YOU SHUT THE TRUTH OUT” to be the most inspirational one as it tells us about how we need to look at our mistakes and to actually observe what we are doing and how we are doing because if we don’t see our mistakes and assume that we are flawless, we are are just making a fool of ourselves and then there is no room for improvement and to actually excel. As said before Rabindranath Tagore was a famous philosopher he had four principles in his educational philosophy, which are as follows:- Naturalism, Humanism, Internationalism, and idealism. ~Nabhya

SHIKSHANKUR THE GLOBAL SCHOOL G7 VOL II ED. 2 MON 31 MAY 2021 Mother’s Day A mother is a very unique person on this planet. Without my mother I can’t do most of the things. Here is an Acrostic poem composed by me as a salute to my dear mother- Million things she has given to me, Only that she’s growing old, Tears she shed when she is overwhelmed and cares for me, Heart of purest gold, Eyes expressing her love for me and shining bright, Right she has been, and right she ‘ll always be . MY mother is the most precious person in my life. She is my first, foremost and the best friend. She cares for me and loves me a lot, she stands by me in my good as well as bad times. She has countless chores to do. She wakes me up early in the morning for school, she prepares nutritious breakfast and tiffin for me and after sending me to school she cooks food for other family members. She takes care of all the family members with a smile always adorning her face. And at night when I am unable to sleep, she tells me a bedtime story. Her love for me is unconditional and she sacrifices all her needs and wishes for my wellbeing. The place of mother is irreplaceable in a child’s life, and her contributions are immeasurable. Even when my mother is in a lot of pain, she doesn’t let it become apparent. She is a perfect example of endurance and self-sacrifice. ~ Yug Goyal 6
