Rob found the very thing to act as a velo We had to do some ‘funny’ gamesbreakdown truck in Antwerp – it is a Flandria,made in Belgium. We were not sure why the centrestand needed to be in the down position. Rob tries out an MV for size – a replacement for the Velo maybe?At the Saturday morning coffee stop, the Antwerp Doug and Pat ran the Vale of Glamorgan road trialcontingent, who all went on to Luxembourg for the for the last time and the Charity auction raisedfollowing weekend event, sporting their wetsuits – £395 and was topped up from section funds withit was a wet weekend. £55 so enabling us to make three £150 donations to various charities. 2007 – VMCC membership 15000The campsite in Mersch, Luxembourg – eight John and Jean Lewis won the trophy for thesection members enjoyed a weekend on the furthest travelled to the ACE café reunion day.AMAL clubs tour plus a few extra days ofsightseeing.50

The section held its first Vale of Glamorgan Luxembourg and a visit to a copper minesaunter for low powered machines, led by RayButcher. This event was in response to the verysuccessful NACC runs that had been heldpreviously around the Vale.Barry Cooper and Chris Williams opened LlandowClassics and obtained an agency for the new RoyalEnfield from India, with Pete Merrick being theirfirst customer. The section AGM saw DaveDanielsen remain as Chairman, whilst Ray Butcherand Brian Morris joined the committee. Twentymembers rode the Bristol sections South WestCoast run on a nice dry day with the Seaside runon the following weekend attracting a good sizeentry of 86.Brian Morris won the Bring a bike night trophyand the team entry for the Banbury run fell apartdue to Bill Phelps finding, at the start of the event,that the one and only brake on his 1908 Triumphwas broken. Something that just could not be fixedon the day.Several membersrode in events inBelgium,Luxembourg andHolland. Out on the road – somewhere in HollandUnfortunately the outfit ended up, nose down, in aditch and Josie was injured but recovered in finestyle. 51

The Bring and buy night was well attended as was Howard Yendle giving his very original Model 30the annual BBQ, although it did rain quite a bit. Norton a prod at the start of the Seaside run, whilstLuckily the garden for the BBQ was well covered at the finish, Barry Cooper receives a trophy forwith awnings. his nice 1971 Russian IZH.The 15th Dragon tour was ably run by DougHughes assisted by Josie Suddery.Only 7 riders turned out for the Chairman’s run,whilst the Follow the Velo run attracted a mere 6riders, but Geoff Thomas’s Gwent Byways runattracted 14 machines.Bill Phelps organised the Vale of Glamorgan roadtrial and 5 members rode in the Cyclemotorsections 100 mile run. Glyn adjusting the headlight on his Honda PC50 – or is he saying a prayer? 30 members turned out for the Boxing Day run to the Green Dragon at Llancadle on a nice dry day.2008 – VMCC membership 16000 Seaside run, morning coffee stop at Nash Point,George and Gill Egan manned our checkpoint for the weather was good all day.the Relay rally once again. The Spring run saw 12riders out for the 80 mile ride. Again Geoff Harrisorganised the Seaside run, in glorious weather,with 86 entries. Bill and Jean organised the Vale of Glamorgan road trial from Caerphilly this year, whilst £300 was raised at the charity auction for the Air Ambulance. 23 members turned out for the Boxing Day run. 2009 – VMCC membership 16000 Some 15 riders braved the cold for the New Years Day run to the Green Dragon. Bruce Grant entertained us all with a slide show on a very cold day in February. Believe it or not but John Huntley turned up on his 1938 Norton dressed as the ‘Desert Fox’. Bill Phelps was elected as President Elect for the VMCC at the AGM in April. Something new was tried during the six months April to September this year – once a month Wednesday evening runs to a designated pub. These low key runs proved to be popular and have since become a permanent part of our calendar. The Seaside run again attracted a good sized entry of over 80 and was run in glorious weather.Out on the Antwerp run somewhere in BelgiumThe ‘Fish & Chip’ run and ‘Follow the Velo’ Runstook place and were well supported. Bruce Grant sold his racing Morgan F4 and couldn’t get rid of the bug so bought a Vee twin Moggy to continue racing. Much to everyone’s dismay, Roger Smith passed away on the 21st June with many members attending the funeral on their motorcycles. The Dragon Tour was again a success apart from the Sunday morning being a bit on the damp side, which encouraged many to cut the ride short and head for home.Bring a bike night – won by Ken Hughes SunbeamDerek Wing and his Nimbus on the Fish & chip Some of the members at the Cyclemotor sectionsrun – more than 30 machines turned out. 100 mile run in October. We had 23 bikes turn out for the Chairman’s run followed by the Bring and Buy in the club Car Park which was a resounding success. 25 riders made it for a very cold Boxing day run.Coffee stop on the Dragon Tour 2010 – VMCC membership 16000 The New Years day run saw 30 bikes out on yet another cold day. Luckily the Green Dragon laid on some free soup to warm us all up. At the AGM in January a poll was taken to hold a Rock ‘n’ roll night and the Chairman organised that for a date in May, which resulted in a poor turnout of support. In May a weekend of events was organised tocelebrate the section having one of its members asthe National President. The weekend was intendedas a dummy run for the same event in 2011 tocelebrate the Sections 50th anniversary.Jean, Bill and Pat at the dinner in the Farmers The Presidential dinner was an excellent evening,Arms – along with 50 others. for sure. The Founder of the VMCC, Titch Allen passed away in April and a memorial service was held at Mallory during May to celebrate his life and what he had given us all.Howard, Paul and Rob. The assembly outside Llandow Classics for Saturdays Presidents run, organised by RayTerry, Glyn and Jack. Butcher.Geoff T says a few words. There was a good turn out – perhaps it was the free56 bacon rolls that did it – the weather helped, of course. We had some 27 machines on the road and the riders were all photographed travelling through Cowbridge for the local newspaper.

Ray Butcher and Jack Madge on the 100 miler The six, monthly, Wednesday evening rides were successful for the second year running. Bring a bike night resulted in 25 machines being displayed at the Llanharry club – The John Wells trophy was won by Ray Butcher with his 1953 Guzzi Leggera. For only the third time in its history the Vale of Glamorgan road trial was cancelled, mainly due to missing the deadlines for submitting routes to the RAC for approval.A water splash somewhere out in the Cotswolds –being over taken by Paul Button on his Scott. The Section AGM returned Bob James as Chairman, Brian Morris and Secretary and Bill Phelps as the Treasurer. Other committee members being Geoff Harris and Wayne Boon. Meetings average 50-60 members attending. We now look forward to the next 50 years58
