ISSUE | 1 FEBRUARY 2021 1ST EDITION CARNEGIE AMERICAN FOOTBALL THE BROTHERHOOD ATTACKING 2021 How has the team has been busy over the past few months? CAF GREATS We launch a series looking at the CAF legends of years past! ...PLUS MUCH MORE! ON THE COVER FORMER CAPTAIN SPENCER HIND LIFTS THE BUCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY IN MARCH 2019
CHAIRMAN'S UPDATE This year has been tough on the team and everyone involved with us, however, we have showed great perseverance and been able to offer our current members plenty of online content including tournaments on Xbox and PlayStation so guys can compete. The players have also shown great character throughout the year and helped the club by participating in two Charity events, the first being for Regain Sports a charity for tetraplegics and then joining the Movember event, raising a total of over £2000 combined for both charities. They have also kept busy with the S&C plans that have been provided by S&C interns to make sure that when we are allowed to return, they are ready. On a final note, the club is now approaching its deadline for the LBU Athletic Union 'Club Mark', we currently stand at the highest which is 'Gold' and hope to maintain that. As ever we will continue the Relentless Pursuit of Excellence and we wish everyone the best. Stay Safe. #Brotherhood BENJAMIN BOOTH THE BROTHERHOOD | 3 CAF CHAIRMAN

DECEMBER 2019 | ISSUE 124 PLAYER SPOTLIGHT OWEN SEDDON BA (HONS) SPORT BUSINESS MANAGEMENT According to wikihow.com, advance players see someone, make a decision, and execute the pass, shot, or move in milliseconds. The best way to become an advanced player is to work on these quick decisions. To do so. Don't hold onto the ball for too long. 1-3 quick touches and a pass or shot is usually enough. The longer you have the ball, the longer defenders have to get ready. If you want to dribble, attack with pace. Make the defender react to you quickly instead of giving them time to get in position. Let the ball do the work. You can never run faster than the ball can travel. If you lose the ball or get beaten, immediately turn and try and win the ball back, or get into position. source: http://www.wikihow.com/Become-an- Advanced-Soccer-Player GAME | 6
DECEMBER 2019 | ISSUE 124 THROWBACK UONAF 27-28 CAF (OT) After seeing off Warwick the week before after a rearrangement that day and my car braking down on the way. We FIXTURE DETAILS went to Nottingham and once again we’re serious underdogs that day. BUCS DIVISION 1 QUARTER-FINAL For most of the day we went back and forth with scores and with limited players meaning players like myself were 12TH MARCH 2017 playing both ways and not in regular positions we finished 20-20 at the end of regulation meaning we were heading to overtime. OPPOSITION KEY PLAYERS Nottingham had the ball first and were able to score a touchdown and the extra point, so we had to answer a score PAT DALEY & JACOB AMADI back, starting from the 25 we gained our first first down meaning another was needed to get first and goal, after 3 attempts we were needing around 4 yards, but at first we were unable to gain the first down necessary to carry on BIG MOMENTS the drive, however Nottingham’s CB was offside meaning we had gained a first down through a penalty. We were first and Goal from around the 2-3 yard line which resulted in a winrow touchdown which meant a discussion was CAF 3RD & 15 CONVERSION needed go for 1 or 2 points, after no discussion whatsoever it was decided that we were going for 2 and the win. UONAF OT TD UONAF OFFSIDE ON 4TH DOWN What happened next is what can only be described as pure emotion and joy to see winrow cross the line untouched CAF 2PT CONVERSION and literally every player run over to the sideline to celebrate (and myself crying which I’m not embarrassed about ) the most unlikely win and thus still enjoying the season of a lifetime in our quest for promotion and the division 1 title. CAF GREATS #46 Degree course STANLEY RUFUS CAF 2009-2010 BA (Hons) Sports Development Position RB/DL Home town Carrollton, Texas via London, England Bio: Stanley was a star RB & DLineman. A member of the first ever CAF squad, it would be no exaggeration to say he put the team on his back and led them to a 6- 2 record. He is an incredibly well-respected alumni and he regularly checks in with the current coaches to see how the team is doing. We are jealous of his CAF memorabilia he his has hung on his wall!
What is your favourite memory of your time with CAF? The best memory was being part of the first-ever CAF team and going through the highs and lows of a season. I couldn't narrow it down to just one memory; we had a great season but had a lot of fun off the field as well. We helped one of our captains, James Perry, get elected to the AU, which was cool. Who is the best player you've played with? This is tough Duvalle Merchant and Jon Hurley in the UK and the US Tim Ball from high school. What have you gone on to do? After University worked temporarily for my moms business transporting seniors citizen at nursing homes to their doctor's appointment. I finally got a big boy job working for AT&T help desk. I stayed there for about two years, and then I moved on to my current company McAfee where I've been for the past eight years working as an account manager. I stay connected to the game by watching all football levels in high school, college, and the pros. I run a fantasy league with some of my former teammates and other CAF alumni I didn't get to play with, but it's a great way to keep in touch and meet new faces from the CAF brotherhood. I got married last year during the whole pandemic and waiting for my firstborn child's arrival in March. What are your words of advice for new players at CAF? Enjoy every moment you have in the programme because it goes by faster than you realize. ''It was one of the best experiences during my one year in Leeds, and I will forever cherish the memories made.''
BORN IN THE USA PATCHOGUE, NEW YORK Produced by Tom Cullen EDDY CAMARA JR How are you enjoying your time so far playing for CAF? I love it, I waited about a year to be apart of the program even through the pandemic. I'm extremely thankful to have made it all the way to the UK but the grind's just starting. CAF is a giant family through current players and graduates and being apart of that family is really special to me. As a program it provides me with a platform to grow on and off the field whether it be in the classroom or providing for our community. What are your opinions of the talent level in the UK? The talent level in the UK is pretty great if you ask me. Most guys here could play collegiately back home in the US. CAF has had several alumni play at the next level as well either throughout Europe or back in the States. There are youth teams that provide the sport to younger generations as well. Those youth academies are producing some scary talent and those young guys are transitioning well to the university level. Have you taken a leadership role since being in the UK? Given the lockdowns most of our schedule training sessions were hindered by restrictions. I've been able to get some of my teammates to get some training in weekly fortunately. Lately I've been focused on helping out the younger guys. What are your opinions of the Facilities at Leeds Beckett? The facilities at LBU are incredible. The weight room far outmatches my previous college's by a mile nonetheless the entire sport building. It could rival those of some of the best sports programs for universities in the US. Everything is there for an athlete to grow whether it be the various training facilities throughout the sports building itself and throughout campus. What advice would you give to anyone wanting to join the program? My advice to anyone wanting to join is that it's a commitment. Our mantra is \"The relentless pursuit of excellence\" and it shows in everything we do and how we carry ourselves. CAF is a brotherhood from alumni to freshers. We strive for the same goals whether it be GAME | 7another BUCS national championship or to be scholars. I'd say to those interested is that they'd be welcomed into an great support system and they'd have a platform to grow as an individual on and off the playing field.
