CDM 2015 The Law The latest version of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015) came into force on the 6th April 2015. Client duties have been significantly increased and extended to domestic projects. Where there is more than one contractor on a project, the client must appoint a principal designer (PD) and a principal contractor (PC). Client Principal Principal Designer Contractor

Domestic or Commercial? If construction work is being carried out in connection with a business, then the client is commercial and full CDM 2015 client duties apply. For domestic clients, your only responsibility under CDM 2015, is to appoint a PD and a PC, when there is more than one contractor. If you do not do this, then your duties are automatically transferred to the PC or contractor. If you already have a designer before the work starts, the designer can take on your duties, provided you have a written agreement with the designer to do so.

Principal Designer (PD) We can offer PD services on any construction projects. This can be either as a standalone PD or as a PD-Advisor (PDA) to clients, lead consultants or other designers appointed to a PD role by a client. The changes have presented a challenge for those design practices assuming PD appointments, with a wide-ranging and demanding set of responsibilities. The PD is required to plan, manage, monitor and coordinate the pre-construction phase of a project.

Health and Safety / CDM Advisors The PD replaces the CDM co-ordinator (CDM-C). However, unlike a CDM-C, the CDM 2015 regulations do not require a PD to provide clients with advice and guidance, or to ensure that they comply with their duties. We are able to fill this gap and can offer additional health and safety and CDM advice to designers, clients or contractors, where requested. Health and Safety Files We have a dedicated team of experienced file compilers who collate information required for the statutory Health and Safety File. Our team is able to work with existing client systems, where required.
