Introduction There is a rhythm to life, just as there are notes to a song. We experience the highs and lows through moments of emotional reverence and crescendos of ecstasy. We may be uplifted to create our daily dreams, or we can strive for understanding when our world makes no sense. Some songs, like experiences, we hear over and over, while some fade off forever. I believe that our relationships paint the opus of each life, beat by beat, and urge us to challenge our fears, and to seek out the wisdom of our souls. It is through the beauty of words that inspiration leads to hope for a new day, overcoming despair and apathy with the power of love. Poetry is my song, inspired by philosophy and the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. We need only to look around at the natural landscape appearing before us every day, and the music of life cannot be denied.
Preface Poetry may seem complicated; however, it is simply an avenue of expression. Everyone has experiences in life that generate all types of emotions. We try to express and release our feelings in many ways, but more importantly, we try to find meaning in a challenging world. Each of my poems is a story about one experience or a moment when love, loss, grief or pain was a time we felt alone. I also describe hope, elation, and the promise of possibilities. We are not alone! There is a common thread of humanity flowing through each of us, and if we share our thoughts I know we will find comfort, love, and understanding. Maybe, we might even find that we have more in common than the things appearing to divide us.
Dedication I dedicate my work to all of the special people who have touched my life, especially to those who did not know the depths of my love and the power of their inspiration. It is also my hope for any person who may read my humble words, that you, too, may remember all of the relationships that have helped you along your journey through life. The Rainbow Of Life Each moment in life is more precious than the next. Yet, we find ourselves reliving past experiences, or anticipating future events. Our memories are like cups filled with the colors of life. Each time we drink from one of these cups, The rainbow of life comes into sight. What color is love? It's the color I taste when I remember you! Remembering is a beautiful experience ... Memories are made in this moment! 13
The Quality Of Success Growth begins as our experiences create inner knowledge. Choice brings us down many uncertain pathways. Dreams inspire us to attain our greatest goals. Courage builds strength to overcome any obstacles. Truth in our intuition enables us to go the distance. Passion erases the judgments of negative encounters. Appreciation of our accomplishments brings individual serenity. Gratitude to those who have touched our lives fills our hearts. Success is knowing that we have done the best we can. Remembering Mother I remember Mom with every breath I take Within rainbows beaming across the sky I feel her in the flowers surrounding me I know her wisdom at the end of each day I see her smile in every candle's light The depth of her soul extends beyond the sea The mountains reach up to watch her soar There could never be one to love me more She has gone Home to find her place To reach out to God and touch his face She will hear my dreams and sprinkle stardust She will turn my sadness into renewed hope The boundaries of life have been crossed She will rest in a beautiful place Her freedom will integrate God's healing grace And soon my sorrowful tears will leave my face 18
Dreams How can we sum up our dreams In a few sentences or paragraphs When our dreams are a part of our daily lives Is it enough to say I dream of a love Beyond human definition Is it enough to say I dream that peace Will take over the universe And will fill every heart with tranquility Which will conquer fear and judgmental attitudes Is it enough to say I dream every individual Will know his or her purpose Since we each have a mission in this life Is it enough to say I dream of individual growth With a knowledge That where we are is where we must be Is it enough to just dream? 19
Images Of Freedom Images of freedom dance through my mind The perceptions are of a different place and time We walked proudly through the desert sands Now we are prisoners huddled in small bands I dream of a time that once was When the land nourished us as a mother does The land can occasionally be unkind Maybe the walls are merely in my mind Clouds form images in the distant sky I ponder my history and question why ... How did the power of a people run dry In my heart the evolution was not a lie Can the rebirth of a multi-cultured nation Become the dream of a forgotten man's sacred remembrance 20
River Of Reflection Spirits survived here long ago I am now the one standing in this place Feeling their presence on this land They are the past I am the present The cold water brings life through my hands The light of the sun illuminates my way It's warmth is the essence of life The oneness of us has no beginning and no end This beauty is truth The gentle sound of the water Flowing over the rocks soothes my being The peace opens the door to creativity It's expression draws rainbows across my heart I feel a moment of coldness ... Teacher How can my words inspire you to look within yourself. How can I show you the love that exists in your soul. How can I offer a perception of life through my eyes. Nature The shadow of your face is lifting I am no longer touched by it The season, as our desire, is shifting And soon all the days will be sun-lit I find myself awakening from a winter sleep Ready to go out into the world and search For no mountain could be so steep As to stop or throw me from my perch I will seek happiness from the rainbows And follow the course of the winding river I will watch and follow the butterfly And I will look to the heavens forever That is where truth can be found And nature is the closest thing to that around 24

Inspiration Love has inspired me to create dreams without the limitations I built around myself. The visions become reality each day I see them in my words. I feel my thoughts falling behind allowing my soul to produce The feelings that are my essence. I SEE I FEEL I LOVE IF I could capture the peace I feel and sprinkle it across the sky ... In my dreams tonight, I will ... I AM YOU AND YOU ARE ME! 26
The Light Of Love I feel your spirit pass through my body each time the light Of love reflects through our eyes into each other. The energizing sensation is overwhelming, And the power of that feeling flows throughout my being. As I share this beauty with others, and my cup of love empties, I simply close my eyes and the light refills it. The power of that light must be shown to all! 27
A Journey Of Two Souls Let your love guide me so that I may discover a direction Which will allow our goal to be one. Let the journey be without space or time. Let the choices be clear. Let there be no doubt to what is inevitable. Let there be strength and power to overcome obstacles. Let the strategy be precise. Let the end be a success ... The victory sweet 28

Rhythm Interrupted There is a rhythm to life Just as there are notes to a song When the motion has been broken Watch for important signs The interruption may bring strife Never doubt that you belong Walk courageously along your path Messages will appear before your eyes Some so powerful. .. your heart will sing And once again fear will see defeat 34

Facets Of Love Love is the greatest gem of all It's faces reflect the depths of emotion The center cut mirrors collective pureness The side edge conceals a rare flaw The vulnerability of imperfection is radiant The beauty and mystery of the stone are everlasting 39
Sunset With every sunset May we let go Of parts of ourselves That are no longer necessary 40
Waiting We wait to be born We wait to grow up We wait for love We wait for the perfect job We wait for our dreams We wait ... we wait ... but DID WE LIVE 41
The Woman In The Window She was a ray of light that shined brightly On all who chose to see their reflection in her eyes She sat by the window everyday Gazing at the path that led to the forest Young people walked by with backpacks on their shoulders Others ran swiftly with pets on leashes She remembered where the path dared go She had walked it many, many times The flowers were so colorful and fragrant In the fall, deer fed on diminished aspen leaves Her nap sack was filled with fruit and cheese And she collected water at the first bend The brown boots rested on the step by the door They displayed a life of strength and character Her beautiful eyes returned to the white lace curtain She slid it aside ever so gently, once more 42
A Promise You need not fear the changes in me They have not replaced the love I feel for you My growth has made my commitment stronger The knowledge and wisdom I have gained Has given me a new vision Come and walk in my footsteps for a day And I promise you a brighter tomorrow 43
Tropical Gifts Cloud formations in the sky Majestic mountains, purple and green Crashing waves of white and blue Birds soaring across the sky The sight and smell of a gardenia Moonbeams dancing on the ocean The warmth of love shining everywhere 44
Opportunity A moment will come for everyone When a small change can be made A time when we find understanding After we have emptied ourselves of hurts Our lives will be a blank page Close your eyes and create a new life Make it so real in your thoughts That it already exists! 45
