DEFINITION Descriptive text is a text which contains a description of an object. Such as places, person or a thing is like in specific ways. In a broad sense, description, as explained by Kane (2000: 352), is defined like in the following sentence: The description is about the senses experience-how appearance, sound, taste. Mainly regarding the visual experience, but description also involves other kind of perception. Therefore, if we start from Kane’s explanation above, descriptive text is meaningful text describe the experience related to the senses, such as what shape, sound, taste. most descriptive text is about vision experience, but actually experience beyond sensation visually, we can also use it to create explanatory text. But especially descriptive The text is, \"... is a text that says what a person or thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal specific people, places, or something. \" So, it can be said descriptive text is a type of text explain whether a person or an object is like, whatever it form, nature, quantity and others. the goal of descriptive text is clear, that is, to describe, indicate or reveal a person or thing abstract or concrete. 3
4 GENERIC STRUCTURE •Identification is the introduction, a general overview of a topic. •Description is contains one a description of things, such as animal, thing, place or person by describing its characteristics and form, color, or anything with what the author describes. LANGUAGE FUTURE – Specific participants: Has a Certain objects, not common and unique (only one). for example: Bandengan Beach, My House, Borobudur Temple and My family – The use of adjectives (an adjective) to clarify the noun, because for example: beautiful beaches, handsome guy, famous In places like Jepara. -Simple gift to use tense: sentence pattern used is a simple gift because it stating the facts of the subject describe. – Action verbs: verbs that express actions activities (e.g. running, sleeping, go, cut and so on...)
5 CHARACTERISTIC OF DESCRIPTIVE TEXT •Use simple present •Using attribute verb: (is, am, are) •Just focus on one object that being described •Using connecting word:Use conjunction (then, next, finally) •Using adjective: To clarify the noun (a beautiful beach, the handsome boy, the famous place in Jakarta)
6 EXAMPLE OF DESCRIPTIVE TEXT My Valuable Collection I have a very special collection of ancient coins. Formerly a gift from my grandfather. He gave me a coin when I was ten years old. I just found out recently that the coin is very rare because there are only five in the world. This situation made me realize that my collection is very valuable. Coin size is not big. Diameter is about 2.5 cm and a thickness of about 2 mm. The first side of the coin shows an image of Liberty's head facing left. i recognize it as Liberty because the picture has a tiara on the head with the word \"Freedom\" was written on it. There are thirteen scattered stars around the head and the number 1913 is written under the head. Short lines are carved around the edges. Second side show letter \"V\" in the middle surrounded by pictures flowers. The words \"United States Of America\" and \"Cents\" are printed around the image in the center.

Task 1 8 Read the text to answer question number 1-5! JATIM PARK For people in East Java, Jatim Park may have been heard many times as it is one of the famous tourism objects in East Java province. Jatim Park offers a recreation place as well as a Study Center. Jatim Park is located on Jl. Kartika 2 Batu, East Java. To reach the location is not too difficult because the object is only 2,5 kilos meters from Batu city. This Jatim Park tourism object is about 22 hectares width. Visitor can enjoy at least 36 kinds of facilities which can attract them as well as give new knowledge. Just after the pass gate, the visitors will find an interesting view of ‘Galeri Nusantara’ area. This study offering continues to step on ‘Taman Sejarah’ area, which contains of miniature temple in East Java like Sumberawan temple, customhouse of Kiai Hasan Besari Ponorogo and Sumberawan Statue. The other facility which is able to be enjoyed is ‘Agro Park’ area. It presents crop and rareness fruits, animal diorama which consists of unique animals that have been conserved, and supporting games like bowling, throw ball, scooter disco, etc. Jatim Park is suitable for family and school recreation. SUMMARY 11 Descriptive text is text that lists the characteristics of something. In descriptive writing, the author does not tell the reader what he saw, felt, tested, smelled, or heard. Instead, he described what he had experienced and through the words he chose to make it look real. In other words, descriptive writing is vivid, colorful, and detailed.
