Coach Dotres Message Playing in the PRESENT! Performance is affected by many things, lack of preparation, whether we pay attention to detail, do we play as a team or do we look for individual glory? It comes down to how we prepare ourselves for each contest. We spoke this week about what influences our performance on the field. Often players will bring with them their daily challenges , or they are looking ahead to another activities (the future). Look forward or back will have an affect on how we play. We need to focus on being present. We need to focus on what we need to do as a team and what we can work on to be a better player and teammate. Enjoy this holiday break – continue to push yourselves and improve your game. Come back refreshed and with a renewed drive to finish this season strong! Player Letter To: Mom & Dad From: Your soccer playing son I am so happy that you have allowed me to play soccer and I am very grateful you are making the financial and time commitment to allow me to play the sport I love. I am asking for a few more things from you as we make this journey together. Please help me to always remember to “honor the game.” There are 5 areas you can help me with, hopefully we can do this together. We can use ROOTS to help remember what I need to work on. R-rules, O-opponents, O-officials, T-teammates, and S-self. We can work on respecting these five areas. I want to always play by the rules, my coach is helping me with that. I need to practice sportsmanship and respect my opponents. You can let me know when I play fair and show good sportsmanship. We should never yell and talk back to the officials, they are there so we can play. They are human and will make mistakes. It is better for my game if I remember to let the bad calls go and focus on my game and how I respond to adversity. I really need to work on being positive with my teammates and not criticize them when they make mistakes. We are just starting our premier soccer journey and we have so much to learn, help me support my teammates and make those around me better. And finally, I need to focus on myself. I need to practice my skills and come to practices and games with a positive attitude. You can help me with that. In conclusion, you can help me by recognizing 2-3 positive things I do in a game and compliment me after. If I talk about soccer, then talk to me about it. If I don’t feel like talking, just wait awhile, I will. Support my coach and my teammates, they are all trying to help me. Thank you, Your son SCORE PAGE 5
