December 2021 The Christmas Edition - Issue #4 MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM YOUR TARPONS MINDFULNESS JOY DEDICATION GRATITUDE
RESULTS Tarpons 4 Braden River 0 Saves: Alex Cash 9 saves, 4th Shutout Scoring: Dylan Salomon 2 goals, 1 assist, Tyler Amaral 1 goal, 1 assist, Levi Wooten 1 goal, Deacon Powell 1 assist. This was the first program victory against Braden River in team history. We played our best game of the season. We defended well and took advantage of our opportunities. This is how this team can play. Our challenge now is to become more consistent. Tarpons 1 North Port 3 Saves: Alex Cash 5 saves, 3 goals Scoring: Deacon Powell, Assist Berry Davis This was Berry Davis’s first game of the season – welcome to the field Berry. We played well early, matching the intensity and physicality that NP threw at us. The first goal we gave up, the referee was out of position when Alex Cash put his hand on the ball gaining possession. NP’s aggressive forward knocked the ball loose and put it in the net. After a heated (referee) debate, the goal stood. We did not handle this adversity well. A huge mistake was made and that put us at a deficit. We were down 0-1 at half. Early in the second half, a penalty kick was awarded. Cash was obstructed from collecting the ball, a collision happened between a player from each team and it was ruled that a foul happened. Unfortunately, they picked the wrong player and a PK was given. We regrouped at the final water break and we attacked. Dylan Salomon had beat his defender and was going to goal. A vicious tackle occurred and a foul was called. A red card should’ve been displayed as Dylan had a clear path to goal. Once again, the interpretation was not in our favor. Then Deacon scored off a Berry Davis assist to get us down by 1 with under two minutes to go. As we were pushing forward, NP was able to get their 3rd goal. Our team showed great resilience in our attempt to come back. We were looking at their previous results and not playing in the present – we were playing in the past. Every weaker opponent that plays us, brings a State Final attitude to the game – we are their championship game. We have to be prepared and ready for that. While we got the result we wanted, we did not play up to expectations. RESULTS CONT TARPONS VS SMA (SENIOR NIGHT) POSTPONED RESCHEDULE SARASOTA MILITARY ACADEMY 1/10/22 *WAITING FOR CONFIRMATION* Tarpons 3 Port Charlotte 2 IT WAS THE CAKE! “The BATTLE of the BRIDGE” Saves: Alex Cash 2 Scoring: Alex Dawson 1goal, Deacon Powell 1 goal, 1 assist, Brady Hall 1 goal, 1 assist There is no better way to end 2021 than a victory. Alex Dawson came of the bench with a spark and got us on the board first. PC battled back twice as we took another lead when Deacon scored. Brady Hall willed our team to finish this game with a “W” and hit the game winner with 3:30 to play. Great effort by all tonight! Man of the Match: Brady Hall Dirty Shirt: Alex Dawson Silver Spoke: Akeem Stephenson Sportsmanship: Donovan Hynes Current Record 10-2 Maxpreps will not reflect our record correctly. We filed a complaint with FHSAA because Victory Rock used an illegal player in our games. Both games are forfeited. FHSAA does not govern independents and VR refused to put in the forfeit so the games were deleted from the schedule. We are recording them as they should be. We also did not receive any message from the 1st Sarasota game. We were up 1-0 with very little time to go when Deacon was injured and the game was stopped. We are recording that as a 1-0 victory. JUST DRIBBLIN ABOUT (WORDS FROM THE COACH): PLAYING IN THE PRESENT! Performance is affected by many things, lack of preparation, whether we pay attention to detail, do we play as a team or do we look for individual glory? It comes down to how we prepare ourselves for each contest. We spoke this week about our own pre-game rituals, how we need to prepare as a team, our warmup procedures, our arrival time to the contest, what we eat for pregame. Everything we do influences our performance on the field. Often players will look at a team’s record (the past), or they are looking ahead to another contest or the post-season (the future). Look forward or back will have an affect on how we play. We need to focus on being present. We need to focus on what we need to do as a team and not be concerned about what our opponent has done. I sent an email this week about handling our emotions, players should print that out and refer to it often. Enjoy this holiday break – continue to push yourselves and improve your game. Come back refreshed and with a renewed drive to finish this season strong! GAME | 6 MINDFULNESS JOY DEDICATION GRATITUDE
