18 | CREDIT VALLEY GOLF & COUNTRY CLUBCourse EtiquetteEtiquette has always been a big component of the game of golf. Here at Credit Valley we work hard to have our members fully engaged in incorporating etiquette as part of our culture, whether it be repairing divots and ball marks, raking bunkers, or by adhering to our dress code and cell phone policies.BALL MARK REPAIRBall marks, the indentations caused when a ball lands sharply on a soft green, have been ruining good putts since the early days of golf. The majority of the work that goes into maintaining excellent putting surfaces is the responsibility of the greens staff. However, some responsibility is that of the golfer. Please take the time to properly repair your ball marks when playing. A properly fixed ball mark is hardly noticeable following repair, whereas an improperly fixed mark can take months to heal. Unrepaired ball marks not only look bad, but they are a major contributor to bumpy greens.HOW TO PRACTICE ON THE RANGEIn order to maintain great conditions throughout the season, we need your help. When you practice, hit each successive shot from immediately behind the previous divot. You will only take 1” of turf on each swing instead of a normal sized divot of 6 to 8 inches. Practicing in long strips as opposed to random or box divot patterns is not only easier to maintain, but allows more members to practice in the same area.

MEMBER GUIDEBOOK | 19DIVOT REPAIRIf the divot is intact and there is soil still attached, simply replace it in the correct orientation and firmly press the divot into the ground with your foot. Pressing down is important because this establishes good contact between turf roots and the soil, which helps the divot heal. If there are any significant gaps between the divot and the surrounding turf, fill them with divot mix and smooth it with your foot. This will help the turf knit back together. If a divot does not have any soil attached, or if it has shattered into small pieces, it cannot be replaced and expected to heal properly. Filling the divot with divot mix is the best option in these situations. Add mix until it is slightly below the height of the adjacent turf, then smooth the mix and press down with your foot.YELLING FOREIf a player plays a ball in a direction where there is a danger of hitting someone, he should immediately shout a warning. The traditional word of warning in such situations is ‘fore’. The 6th tee can become a bottleneck on the course and it is not uncommon to have more than one group waiting to hit their tee shots. The main reason for this is that the groups on 6 need to wait as the group on 18 passes by after hitting their tee shots. There is a fairly easy way to help this situation. When playing the 18th hole, after teeing off, you should walk or drive your cart down the left side of the hole (along the cart path is ideal). When you get even with your ball, proceed out to it on a 90 ̊ angle. You are far safer the closer you are to the valley wall and those teeing off from on top of the hill will not need to delay playing their shots into the valley.BUNKERSEach season, more hours are spent by greens staff maintaining our bunkers than any other feature on the golf course. Each morning, staff rake out the previous day’s footprints or imperfections to provide the best playing surface possible. If you find yourself in a bunker, please take a moment to properly rake after play to provide the best surface possible for those playing behind you.For complete details on Course Etiquette, please refer to the guide available on the website under the main ‘GOLF’ tab.An example of a large divot.Same divot, properly replaced. An example of a smaller, broken divot.Same divot, properly filledwith divot mix.

20 | Credit Valley Golf and Country ClubINCLINATOR USAGE LocationBehind the 18th green, adjacent to the Halfway House. The top of the device is near the 1st tee and back of the Clubhouse.General UsageAfter completing your round, head to the base of the device, carrying your clubs and electric caddy (if applicable). ‘Call’ the elevator by pressing the ‘Down’ button on the wall. This will engage the magnet to hold the door to the car open. This magnet is on a timer and will release after a minute or when the car is requested to move up the slope. Once inside the car with your equipment, close the car door and press the ‘Up’ button. The magnet will release, closing the outside door and the car will take you to the top of the incline. Once the car has come to a stop at the top of the incline, open the door to the car and the outer door completely to engage the magnet. After you have cleared the car of all equipment, close the car door and press the ‘Down’ button. This will return the device to the bottom of the slope.Emergency ProcedureIn the event of a operational issue when you are not inside the car please let the Halfway House attendant know immediately. Transportation out of the valley will be arranged at this time. If the inclinator becomes disabled while you are in it, please press the assistance button in the car. This will connect to the service dispatcher. Please answer all questions to the best of your knowledge and the service technician will be dispatched promptly. The service number is listed inside the car. If you would like any further information or are having problems, please call the Proshop at extension 238. In the event of an entrapment, it is imperative to wait for the technician to arrive. Do not exit the car in any manner as it is dangerous as the car could resume movement at any time.PACE OF PLAYPace of play at Credit Valley is 4 hours or less for 18 holes. Please ensure you are keeping up to the group ahead of you or let a faster group play through. Helpful pace of play tips are available on the website under the ‘GOLF’ tab by selecting ‘Golf Information’ and then ‘Pace of Play.’STRIKEGUARD LIGHTNING PROTECTIONLightning protection is extremely important at Credit Valley. There are numerous horns and flashing lights around the golf course that indicate when lightning is in the area. There is shelter beside the 14th green, at the Halfway House and at the washrooms between 17 and 18. Continuing play or practice after the horn sounds for lightning detection is strictly prohibited. One long blast signifies that dangerous weather is approaching the Club. All players must discontinue play and seek shelter immediately. The all clear (three short blasts) signifies that it is ok to resume play.
