Q/A INTERVIEW Are are your thoughts about the current and future trends in fashion? Trucker, Borg and puffer jackets have been the key essentials this winter, with them still being current in the transition into spring. With the focus this season being on bold colour, alpha floral and camouflage prints. I feel the future trends in fashion will focus more on the timeless, structured garments experimenting more with resourceful but opulent fabrics. How is your personality related to the tyoe if clothing you wear? What I wear is really dependant on my mood. I feel clothing is a way to express yourself, so my mood dictates what I shall wear. Some days I make more effort to try and make myself feel better while still being comfortable and practical, especially when most of my days are spent getting creative. I like combining different styles as I wouldn't say I fit in with a certain fashion style or that I only have certain brands or designers I shop at. I have favourite places to look, for example All Saints and Topshop but also open to small growing independent places as well. My go to style at the moment would be anything over sized and khaki green, but this is always changing when the trends do. I would say I am quite bold with what I wear, whether this be the colour, shape or fabric the garment is made up of. I always like trying new things and not afraid to wear something a bit different. 59

AMONGST FEW Are there any hobbies that inflence your ideas in fashion? Travelling is one of my favourite hobbies as I feel you can learn so much from different cultures. Not only by the way they live and approach life but also their surroundings can provide initial inspiration for my ideas. Whether this be the architecture or the natural surroundings that triggers ideas for motifs which I could possibly develop into prints. Alongside photography that allows me to capture details of certain objects, this enables me to have a record of my memories. 62
INTERVIEW Talk to us about the events you took part in outside University. I've been very fortunate to been offered many opportunities outside university. A few being linked really well into my degree. In year one, I was chosen to do an internship for ‘Maids to Measure’ every Friday in Chelsea London. This gave me many opportunities to learn other aspects of the industry. For example, I had to package the dresses for various people. This would include directly to the customer as well as larger delivers to the stores. This would mean the way I packed them would be different with the customer getting a more personal touch and the dresses to stores remaining in their protective layer. I had to ensure that this was done in time so they could be taken the same day. Also, I had to help create a look book for their new collection and assist at events like ‘The White Gallery Trade Show’. I have been in charge in opening the shop and answering phone calls as well as helping in appointments when the customers come for one to ones. Looking at travelling, I have also been involved in an innovative project, ‘What We Wear Is Who We Are’ with the England-China Arts Exchange with Wuhan Textiles University China and the British Arts Council. Fashion is a primary way for self-expression and this project explores the comparisons across two cultures whilst acknowledging and valuing the differences. This exchange gave me the opportunity to go to Wuhan and have my work featuring in a Fashion Show in China. 63
