DUNES INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Volume 5 Issue 1 ACADEMIC SESSION 2019-2020 03—07 Nov, 2019 Sneak Peek GLIMPSES OF THE MAJOR EVENTS Reminders  Islamic and Moral Science weekly test will be con- ducted on Sunday 10.11.2019  Writers Hub Activity – ”Artificial Intelligence is the best substitute for man power“ will be conducted from 12.11.19 to 21.11.19.  Children’s Day -”Be a child” will be celebrated on 13.11.19.  Carnival “Jamboree 2” will be conducted on 14.11.19 3rd November The Flag Day marks the anni- versary of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan becoming the President in 2004. The UAE Flag Day is a true sym- bolism and reminder of His Highness Skeikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s timeless efforts and his initiatives to keep the nation high and cher- ished. At Dunes Interna- tional School the flag was hoisted sharp at 11:00 am by the school principal Mr.Paramjit Ahluwalia.

Dunes International school hosted UAE Social studies forum on 6th of November in which 7 CBSE schools of Abu Dhabi participated. The forum focused on the best practices and assessment strategies used in the school to impart UAE social stud- ies. The participant teachers shared the best activities and assessment practices in the curriculum. he core outcome of the workshop was to discuss the importance of AFL strategies to enhance students learning and realize the importance of the use of assessment data to enhance the learning outcomes.

INTERSCHOOL DRAWING AND PAINTING COMPETITION- 56TH NOV, 2019 Wednesday, 6th of November 2019, was a colorful day for Dunes International School Children with their participa- tion in the interschool drawing/painting competition held at The Sunrise English Private School, Abu Dhabi. Stu- dents from various schools across Abu Dhabi enthusiastically participated and wondrously showcased their percep- tions, thoughts and views over the canvas. The contestants engrossed their work with an amazing finishing as their imagination run wide and created absolute magic. It was a day where in creativity exploded in every piece of art and the participants’ stupendously thought out of the box. The competition not only served its sole purpose but also given them a platform to display their vivid ideas and they learned more by interacting with others. It also en- hanced awareness amongst students so that the compatibility with the theme “Tolerance” becomes their motto in life. Congratulations to all the winners and participants!

GLIMPSES OF THE MAJOR EVENTS The Tajneed Leadership Team Friendship Match– 4th Nov,19. The Tajneed leadership team of Dunes conducted a friendly football match between the bus drivers and football team of DIS as a part of UAE fitness challenge. The goal of this activity was to create an awareness about the importance of physical activity to maintain a healthy life. EMIRATES LITERARY FEST-2019 8 students from Dunes International School Participated in the Cheveron’s Readers Cup ,1st round held at Al Yasmina Academy Abu Dhabi on the 3rd of Nov, 2019. They read 6 books; 3 per senior and junior category. It did help the stu- dents to develop a strong love for extensive reading. Inter-School Declamation Competition Dunes International School is at it again. We are extremely thrilled to announce that two of our students bagged 2nd and 3rd places in the Inter-School Declamation Competition held at Mayoor Private School Abu Dhabi. Sharon Emacu- late of Grade 11G1 secured Second Position in the senior girls category while Eric Beju Thomas secured Third Position in the Senior Boys Category. Congratulations to the pride of DIS.

GLIMPSES OF THE MAJOR EVENTS ASSEMBLY Morning assembly is the most serene feature of the school where students learn the value of collective prayer and are exposed to the need to inculcate moral and ethical values. Grade 9 G girls conducted morning assembly on 3rd of No- vember. A skit based on ‘Healthy Lifestyle’ was presented focusing on the importance of healthy practices. The stu- dents presented the causes of various health issues and the precautionary measures to be taken to keep oneself healthy. Students learnt about positive lifestyle choices and how these affect their health is of utmost importance and gave a message how healthy eating habits can support a healthy lifestyle. International Author- Pablo Herran’s Visit 5th Nov, 2019 The students from grade 3 to 5 had an interactive session with the author Pablo Harren and experienced him speaking about his interest in writing books and film making and struggles from life. He made the students understand the importance of writing and how they can be happy by reading books. The students enjoyed asking him questions about what inspired him to write books and learnt many ways to develop a story and be creative while writing a story. He developed the interest in students of writing by giving them few words to form stories. The students enjoyed making short stories and shared their stories with Mr. Pablo. He was happy to hear the creative short stories made by the students. It was overall a unique learning experience for the children with the author.

NUNTUST-SNi-gNhigt hUtnUdnedr ethr ethSetaSrtars 7th7tNhoNv,o2v0, 210919 Dunes International School arranged a NUTS activity for the boys’ section from grade 3-12 on the 7th of Nov, 2019. The NUTS overall was an amazing experience for students. Students gathered as per the time schedule shared and got engrossed in the fun filled activities throughout the even- ing. It not only helped them learn the art of living together but also provided another unique ven- ue for growth, allowing kids to become independent and self-confident, while socializing and making new friends through a variety of programs like, yoga, meditation, nature walk, movie, dancing and many more.

Animated Video Competition Animated videos have become one of the most powerful tools for your marketing en- deavors. Their power lies in the fact that they can tell the story of your product, in a matter of just a few seconds, and in a fun and engaging way!  To boost such fun and engagement the students from grade 6 to 12 participated in animated video making competition and prepared enormous creative video. The activity helped the students understand the value of being inventive and developed their competitiveness. It also helped in fostering their technological skills.

Subject: English SUBJECT CORNER Subject: English Poetry Slam: Poetry doesn’t get internalized until its tones and rhythm are not felt deeply. Poetry slam gives a chance to the students to feel the message of the poem with its beats being performed. Grade 11 students expe- rienced a “poetry slam” where they recited the poem ‘Father to Son’ in pairs and explained it thematically as well. The activity helped the stu- dents to understand poetry inten- sively. A role play helps the students natu- rally to develop and use their cogni- tive abilities and skills . Through us- ing their imagination regularly they develop creativity and learn to think for themselves . Thus grade 10 boys did a role paly in pairs . The whole class actively participated which helped them boost their communi- cation. Subject: Science It is always imperial to make the students engaged as engaged learning yields in fruitful results. Students like sharing their knowledge with each other and that’s what triggers learning. Grade 10 students learned series and par- allel connections through an inter- active activating where they be- came responsible of their own learning. It was a great experiential learning experience for the stu- dents.

SUBJECT CORNER Biology Experimental learning provides opportunities to learn more deeply and in a detailed way. Students observed and analyzed the structure of heart with the aid of heart model. They learnt circulatory path- ways and the im- portance of double cir- culation also. Physics Involve me and I never forget. There is a heap of learning happening when students are given a chance to use their hands and experiment. Grade 12 students were involved in an interactive activity to fig- ure out merit and to find the resistance of given galvanom- eter. MATHEMATICS Independent learning environ- ment helps the students calcu- late their own learning and as- sess themselves. Students of Grade 9 learnt to construct different combinations of angles using compass and enjoyed con- structing triangles with perime- ter and base angles.

SUBJECT CORNER ACCOUNTANCY Working individually and then sharing your work your peers helps in internalizing the con- cepts. Students of grade11 iden- tified different ways of calcu- lating profit under single entry system. They prepared state- ment of profit and loss to certain the profit at the end of the year. ARABIC To demonstrate the skills practically linguistically, the students of grade 10 and 11 prepared an informative poster about the ministry of tolerance. It helped them understand the message with proper usage of Arabic language. ISLAMIC EDUCATION Mind Mapping helps students in- ternalize the concept with author- ity. The students of grade 11 did a mind map activity on the concept ethical instruction of the prophet. The activity helped the students understand the topic intensively and the mind mapping proved to be an interactive way of learning.
