Onam is an annual Harvest festival in the state of Kerala in India. It falls on the 22nd Nakshatra Thiruvonam in the Malayalam calen- dar month of Chingam, which in Gregorian calendar overlaps with August–September. According to leg- ends, the festival is celebrated to commemorate King Mahabali, whose spirit is said to visit Kerala at the time of Onam. The festival lasts for ten days and is celebrated with a great splendor. In Dunes ,we celebrated this festival by making flower carpets. Students enjoyed the visit of our little Mahabali to their classes. The importance of celebrating Onam was de- picted in the assembly conducted by our grade 2 students

ENGLISH Flow Chart Flowcharting is all about drawing simple and easy-to-understand diagrams illustrating the logical se- quence in a process. Flowcharts help us to communicate and document how processes work; and map- ping out the logical steps in a process also helps us figure out ways to improve the process. Flow charts are one type of graphic organizer where students’ thinking can be made visible. Students of grade 5 cre- ated flow chart presenting the types of phrases which helped them think and reflect on their thinking. Students described a sequence of events, stages, phases, or actions that lead to an outcome.

Story writing Grade 5 students were learning about story writing . The objective of this activity was to make students know how to write stories in Hindi language . All students have the knowledge about this topic . A story is simply a tale of events that are linked by cause and effect. It can be true or it can be a work of fiction. We expect stories to have a beginning, middle and end; they involve at least two characters, and some events take place. They all have written different stories. All students were happy and shared their thoughts as writing skill.

SCIENCE VISION Vision is an incredibly complex process that works so well, we never need to give it much thought. Light enters our pupil and is focused on- to the retina at the back of the eye. The retina converts the light signal into electrical impulses. The optic nerve then carries the impulses to the brain where the signals are processed. To under- stand how this amazing feat occurs, students were given the model of an eye to identify its parts and functions. They came to know that our eyes and visual system work hard every second we are awake to give us a visual treat.

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” Singing comes from within and keeps one happy and joyful. Students learn a new song with singing techniques and breath control. They fo- cus on the pitch and tone and also learn the lyrics of the song.

MATHEMATICS Pair activity Addition and subtraction are the two concepts that they have been learning from smaller grades. They are applying the concept in grade 5 using large numbers. They revised the co- cept and applied it in addition and subtraction of large numbers and achieved the outcome in pairs

MONOACT “Life is full of love & drama and It's amazing how much you can learn if your intentions are truly earnest.” Mono acting is dramatic presentation of speech, acted by a single actor on the stage. It involves both acting as well as in- telligence. A variety of acts showcasing al- most all emotions from love to fear and from arrogance to humor were enacted. There was much of inspiration that could be drawn from each participant as they por- trait their character. They looked confident and gave their best to charm the audience. All the acts were extremely exceptional, and it will forever remain as a great memory in the hearts of everyone.

ART Origami- “Artistic skills at display” “Humans are blessed with the creative skill and imagination to transform the most monotonous image into a vibrant and spirited composition.” Children came up with wonderful ideas and made birds by paper folding and put them creatively. The little hands worked smoothly and efficiently and created masterpieces and showed their innate tal- ent. Dunes International School have been provid- ing students an opportunity to display these skills and also their dexterity in paper folding to present superlative Origami compositions. Origami, the ancient art of paper folding, has appli- cations in the modern-day classroom for teaching geometry, thinking skills, fractions, problem solv- ing, and fun science. Origami provided students with wonderful “schematic learning through repeatable ac- tions”. As the teacher demonstrated, children watched closely and listened carefully to the specific instructions and then carried them with originality, neatness and accuracy. The paper folding craft was not only a fun filled experience, but it also proved to be a valuable means to develop artistic skills in the young ones
