I would also like to profoundly thank them for the wonderful judges gift which I am sure I will put to a very good use, but I have to confess it is almost too lovely to use. I would like to thank all those who participated and brought me some lovely dogs to judge. I was particularly pleased to see so many owners and breeders presenting their dogs. I was pleased with those dogs which I awarded to have been presented in good coat and condition. Temperaments on the whole were excellent. The Best Breed and the Best of Opposite sex dogs were two well made exam- ples of the breed. Best of Breed bitch had a lovely neck and shoulder strong top line and super rear she also showed her heart out. Best of Opposite likewise had a good front end and was a well-made masculine Norfolk. I did feel the entry as a whole showed areas which breeders have to concentrate on improving. Namely front ends there were many dogs with a very undesirable front end assembly also I was surprised at the number of questionable mouths that were presented. Both of these problems are very hard to breed out and correct. I know from experience how heartbreak- ing it is to have a lovely dog whose mouth goes off at eighteen months ! Again thank everyone who participated and I hope to see everyone at next years show at MCKC ! 101","ASSOCIATE MEMBERS Lisa Ferchau I first saw a Norfolk terrier when Coco won at Westminster. We had terriers before but I fell in love with this little dog. I loved the size, personality, temperament and loyalty. I did a lot of research before I bought my first Norfolk and knew one would fit well in our family. I was well aware that they were energetic and a go to ground dog that needed to be on a leash when not in a confined yard. I still keep mine on a leash even on the beach. I contacted several breeders before I purchased my first and second Norfolk. I used NTC and I also googled the best Norfolk terrier breeder in the US. I was gifted an Associate Membership when I purchased my second Norfolk but not when I purchased my first one. I have not attended any NTC functions and neither of my Norfolk’s have exhibited in conformation or performance. If there was performance for killing lizards and fishing for Koi I’m sure my little Norfolk would do quite well. I did not breed my Norfolk and I regret that I didn’t. I will not make that mistake again. She is an amazing little dog with a wonderful personality. I trim my Norfolk between grooming but her full grooming is done by Chuy Moreno. His skill at stripping is not some- thing I could ever match. I would love to become a member of the Regular Norfolk Terrier Group. The Norfolk I have now is known as the Golden Child. She can do no wrong no matter what she does. The majority of the time we live in Houston where she has full run of a half-acre. She spends her days keeping the yard free of lizards, squirrels, mice, rats, opossums, and armadillos. She avoids the snakes. She has been known to climb a tree chasing lizards and will drag opossums out from under the bridge and kill them. She has no fear. When we take her to Carmel, CA everyone knows her and she has come to know which shops pass out dog treats. Her favorite dog shop is Diggity Dog and her favorite people shop is Jan De Luz linens. She loves the owner and the little dachshund that works there. She goes to the grocery store and is allowed to come into restaurants. Doris Day’s hotel is a favorite because she is allowed to sit in a chair and wait for her ham- burger patty. She has a squirrel that is very fond of her that follows her on walks. She does not feel the same about him. Her walks on the beach are spent digging for sand crabs and chasing sea gulls. This little dog is my constant companion. She goes everywhere with me. I miss her when I can’t see her. At night I wake up check on her and make sure she is sleeping next to me. There is a special bond between us. I am grateful to her breeder for giving me the opportunity to love and care for this special little dog 102","ASSOCIATE MEMBERS Claire Wachter I had Norfolk Terriers growing up and my mother did as well. I adore the breed. Their temperament, ener- gy and love are the best of any breeds I’ve come across. When I decided that I had the energy and time to have a dog in my life, I did not look at any other breed. In 2017, my father, who lives in Palo Alto, got an amazing Norfolk from breeder Barbara Miller, so when I was ready to devote the time and attention needed to house and raise a happy Norfolk terrier in NYC, I contacted her. Barbara gifted me with the Associate Membership, and I enjoy the email updates and the Annual. I want to see Norfolk terriers continue as a breed in the United States and if I can donate to the club for awards or to make the Annual possible, I will continue to do so. I have a full-time job (fintech startup co-founder) and I simply have not had the time to attend any NTC functions, although I have attended Norfolk and Norwich terrier meetups in NYC. I would like to attend the show in Pennsylvania/NJ in the future. I do not exhibit my Norfolk in conformation or performance, and I do not plan to breed. I do regular brushings with a stripping comb and a Mason Pearson small brush that we have used with other Norfolks, but she is taken to Wag Grooming Club in Brooklyn where a professional does the hand stripping 1x a quarter. I look forward to migrating up to a Regular NTC membership after serving my two years as an Associate. Barbara Fazio I fell in love with the Norfolk Terrier through a book on dog breeds while trying to find a breed that would be perfect for our son, who was turning 7; would work with our house and yard; and would also fit in with my husband who had never owned a dog. Many years ago, the AKC gave me the name of a breeder to contact who lived on Long Island. Unfortunately, a con- nection wasn’t made. I then called the AKC again and was given another name to call who gave me several breed- ers’ names. I contacted Phyllis Hart of Harleigh Kennels who lived in Tenafly, NJ, and was successful in getting our first Norfie back in 1986. I did not become an Associate member with my first two Norfolks, but I was able to get my third Norfie, through a contact of Kathy Kopack’s, who recommended to Robin Coppedge that she should kindly recommend me to become an associate member of the Norfolk Terrier Club. Through the club publications, I have found out so much about my breed, it’s history; my lines; Norfie health issues; enjoying the camaraderie of fellow owners. I also enjoy the online shows. I do not exhibit my Norfolk in conformation or performance, and I do not plan to breed. As far as grooming, I mostly relied on a friend of Kathy’s who know how to groom. I do a bit regularly, but I now have a groomer who doesn’t specialize in Norfolk but does a good job hand stripping my current Norfie. I am content with my Associate Membership and have no intentions of becoming a Regular Member 103","MEMORIAL—UK Andrew Gullick By Martin Phillips I first met Andrew in Jersey in the 90’s when i was judging there. He was 14 years old and competing as a junior han- dler where he was very successful, winning the Young Kennel Club competition. Andrew thoroughly enjoyed his days with the YKC and many of those involved with the organisation such as the late Meriel Hathaway saw in him such great promise and were always keen to encourage his interest and acknowledge his talent. Originally his interest was in Border Terriers and Old English Sheepdogs but then he obtained his first Norfolk Terrier from Michael Crawley of Elve fame. With this bitch Andrew learnt the basics of trimming and handling (on a loose lead!) but he then bought from the Foys a better bitch called Honky Tonk Woman with whom he won consistently, actually making her a Champion, the first title holder for the family’s Merauder kennel. We got to know each other well through showing our Norfolks and one day Andrew was at an Open show where I was showing three dogs. I had a problem showing one of the pups and was getting very frustrated so I asked Andrew if he would take him into the challenge where he got the absolute best out of the wayward pup and won Best of Breed. This was of course the dog who was to become Ch Jaeva Dutch Gold with whom Andrew instantly “clicked”. Together they formed a formidable partnership, really showcasing the breed at the highest level in the group ring and in such prestig- ious competitions as the Pedigree Champion Stakes. Their finest hour was winning Best In Show All Breeds at Darling- ton Championship show in 2000. Gradually Andrew became more involved with the Jaeva kennel to such an extent that he moved into a flat in Rugby where he could be closer to the kennels. We worked together, discussing different aspects of the breed, where we could improve our own dogs and the breeding programme in general. He took over more of the handling responsibilities as my judging increased and Andrew excelled at record keeping and paperwork, dealing with all Kennel Club documen- tation etc. There have been overall 120 champions of various breeds under the Jaeva affix and Andrew had been in- volved with so many of them. Being closer to the kennels meant that Andrew could spend more time with the dogs and training them for the shows, something which he loved and was so good at. He also got to grips with commercial grooming and we would both pre- pare the show dogs. He was such a good organiser with a brilliant memory for pedigrees and dogs and would always help other people with their problems. Unfortunately when his father became ill Andrew returned to live in Norfolk so he could be closer to his father who he loved dearly. However he was constantly in contact with me to discuss the dogs and the breeding programme and which way we should go. Andrew continued to do all the paperwork and kept everything up to date for me. He would often take puppies back to Norfolk with him to socialise and train which, for me, was a real godsend. Unfortunately Andrew’s father passed away at the beginning of 2022. He was hoping to come back to Rugby to resume the showing of the dogs but sadly this was not to happen. Andrew had already begun judging his favourite breeds at Championship level. He had served his apprenticeship “the old fashioned way” which culminated in his judging Norfolks at Crufts 2016, an appointment which gave him enormous pleasure. He was delighted to watch his Best of Breed winner, Ch Kinsridge Top Tip, place Fourth in the Terrier Group under Swe- den’s Dan Ericsson. Andrew always judged without fear or favour and from his heart and had no problem with just judging the dogs. Indeed at Crufts that year he awarded a third CC to Kinsridge Back Chat who shared the same owner/breeder as Top Tip, Diane Jenkins. Many apart from myself felt that Andrew had a great future ahead of him as one of the country’s most talented young all-rounders but cruelly fate decided otherwise. Andrew’s sudden and tragic death was a huge loss to Jaeva and the dog world in general. The gap he has left will nev- er be filled. RIP my friend you will be missed so terribly by me and all the dogs who loved you. 104","MEMORIAL CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF Nathaniel Reid LaMar 1934 - 2022 105 ","MEMORIAL Nathaniel Reid Old English Sheepdogs leading him to work for the famed Fezziwig kennel of Serena and Henrik Van Rensse- laer. John wrote the book on the breed, “The Complete English Sheepdog.” He also served on the board. John and his first wife moved on to a much smaller breed, the Norwich Terrier drop ear, now known as the Norfolk terrier. He holds the honor of having the first AKC registered litter and dog directly after the breed split in 1979. His bitch was the first Norfolk to go BOB at Westminster and first Group placing Norfolk as well. In 1971 he went to work for the AKC and man- aged to lead many of the areas important to that organization; most important was his dedication to the AKC Canine Health Foundation. After his retirement from AKC, as a vice president, he wrote many articles for Dog News, With his second wife Pam he joined her dedication to breeding Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers; a very successful kennel. John would always greet you with a smile and a laugh and to know him you realized he was brilliant as well. Bernice Staton She was a loyal member of the Norfolk Terrier Club, participating in Perform- ance events and early on in Conformation. Bernice enjoyed her art classes too. She was an accomplished artist. Often she and Nat LaMar would spend long chats on the phone about their dogs. 109 ","110","111","112","113","For Norfolk Titles from 2014—2019 please refer to Annual #6 114 ","115 ","116 "," 2021 NORFOLK TERRIER TITLES 117 ","118 ","119 ","120 ","121 ","122","WATERCROFT ONE FOR THE ROAD 6 GCHS CH MAX-WELL’S CRADLE ROBBER 6 GCHS CH MAX-WELL’S MEANT TO BEE 4 GCHS CH NIGHTENGALE’S CARRY ON AT BARNSTABLE 4 GLENELG GILLY FLOWER 4 123","124","125","For Norfolk Terrier Awards 1015—2019 please refer to Annual #6 126","2022 NTC DIRECTORY OF KENNELS & STUD DOGS Only NTC Members may have a listing!
