In a field one summer’s day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart’s content. (วันหนึ่งในฤดรู ้อน ตัก๊ แตนตวั หนง่ึ กำลังสนกุ สนำนร่ำเรงิ ใจกับกำรร้องรำทำเพลง ) An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest. ( พวกมดไดเ้ ดินผ่ำนมำดว้ ยทำ่ ทำงทขี่ ยนั ขนั แข็ง พวกมันกำลงั ขน ข้ำวโพดไปเก็บสะสมทีร่ งั )

“Why not come and chat with me,” said the Grasshopper, “instead of toiling and moiling in that way?” (“ ทำไมพวกเจ้ำไมม่ ำสนกุ กับขำ้ ก่อนละ่ ” เจำ้ ตก๊ั แตนพูด , “แทนทจ่ี ะต้องมำเหน็ดเหนอ่ื ยกับกำรทำงำนหนักอยูอ่ ยำ่ งน้ี”) “I am helping to lay up food for the winter,” said the Ant, “and recommend you to do the same.
