I arrive back from New Zealand and join my mother on Salt Spring island Jan 1999I enroll in Royal Roads to gain my MCSE ( icrosoft ertified ystems ngineer) designationMCSERoyal Roads ceased being the 3 Military College of Canada 1995. It commenced as a rdprovincially funded university from then on. When I attended it still bore the trappings of a Military College, I boarded in the original Cadet quarters ( the furniture, blankets etc. still had DnD markings). Our class area was the old Nuclear physics building (apparently the RCN were training officers for service aboard nuclear submarines). On graduation I was class valedictorian (mainly because I was the oldest). I had already applied for a position with the Canadian Dept of Foreign affairs the process before acceptance took approx. 2 –years.I was a student of Royal Roads for just over 6 months.

On graduation from Royal Roads I joined the BC Ministry of Health.I was in the Information Management Group and was involved in some interesting projects.-The implementation of the Pharmacare system, integration with pharmacies and support of the help centre Saving lives-Was involved in the Y2K roll over. I contacted some of my colleagues in NZ, as it was the first country to experience the rollover, they were in contact with our bunker for the duration.-Setting up help centre for the new smoking regs (people could phone in and reportinfractions)-Trouble shooting data base problems-Develop software for database testing-Ensuring backups completed in server farm in basement of Blanshard street headquarters and ensuring offsite backup remained in synch-DiscussPharmacare securityPersonnel organisationSignificance of Kamloops and Hope

Here's a blast from the past - an old Duke remembers. This photo was taken at the Commonwealth War Cemetery, RAMLEH outside of Tel Aviv, Israel. I am the ugly bugger on the left, I was attache at the Canadian Embassy with some technical duties involving liason with UNDOF (United Nations Disengagement Observer Force) based at Camp FAOUR in the Golan heights. This is Sunday 10th Nov. 2002. To my left is the mission security officer (CMP) RCAF I remember her first name was \"Annie\". The guard was found by the Canadian contingent of UNDOF. The only Canadian buried here is Alexander Fraser a Flying Officer RCAF who was serving in the MEAF and crashed 3rd April 45. Note the Israeli soldier behind me, for all their prowess they are not the sharpest dressers. In fact it was de rigueur for the best uniform to have a hole in it somewhere. If anybody is interested, ask me about the Multinational Observer Force in the Sinai (Not UN)
