KACADMIMP ANORAA.KREGER Chai-ways • PAGE 5 AT THE DAVID POSNACK JCC Summer of Smiles! In her first year as Camp Director, Latin Initiatives/Maccabi Tzair Director Perla Sananes produced an amazing summer of internationally-flavored fun for Camp Kadima, with Camp Giborim Director Scott Dermer, his “sidekick” Rachel Greenhawt, and the dynamic duo of Mike Chanan and Dale Mclean who brought energy, spirit, and joy all summer long. After a pandemic- related dip in 2020, this year the J averaged over 700 campers a week, including more than 100 campers in the Posnack Foundation Camp Giborim for youth and adults with developmental disabilities. As part of this year’s Olympics theme, campers were introduced to the culture, sights, and flavors of a different country every week, including Israel, Mexico, Japan, and the United States. Field trips returned with excursions to the beach, Tigertail Lake, bowling, Urban Air, the Palm Beach Zoo, and other exciting destinations. A helicopter spewed blue and red smoke to announce this year’s circus-themed Color War (Red won); songs were sung at Zimriah; and Matilda, Jr. and Peter Pan, Jr. were performed to perfection. Team Mike defeated Team Dale – in a tie-breaker! – after a summer-long competition at Flagpole (morning assembly) that featured a host of wacky games including Family Feud, Musical Chairs, and Karaoke Wednesday. And of course, our shared culture was celebrated every Friday at fun Shabbat services with special performances by the Heat and Panthers mascots, a magician, a drum team, and even musicians Pit Bull and Drake! Well, “bobblehead” versions, at least… We ended the last day of camp by singing “Happy Birthday” to former board member, Bernie Feldman, who turned 90. Plans are already underway for summer 2022. We can’t wait!
