4“What I love about the JCC is the people. My family has been a part of preschool, attended summer camp, benefitted from Giborim programming and fitness classes, volunteered with JCares and more. The common theme throughout has been the truly amazing people we have encountered. It’s a pleasure to be involved at the JCC, and I look forward to the future possibilities that exist only where great people come together.” -Stephanie F. 4“Our family loves the JCC! We go to the J as a family. The kids can train for basketball with the coaches or go to babysitting. The adults can go to XZone or the gym to exercise. It is a one stop shop for a fun family Saturday or workouts during the week. The kids are always excited to see their friends for summer camp, where they play all day, go on field trips and compete at color war! We can’t imagine our lives without the JCC”. -Ashley L. 4“Camp Kadima has provided my children with very exciting, fulfilling, fun and wonderful summers. I have watched them try new experiences, make new friends and gain a new found independence. We look forward to camp year after year.” -Stephanie R. 4

Introducing… In the fall of 2020, our youth department pivoted during the pandemic to accommodate the need for a supervised remote learning program for children not attending school in-person anymore. Many parents could not take off from work to supervise their children, or if they were working from home, they could not handle both jobs at once. The DPJCC created a new program called “JSchooled.” The JSchooled program helped oversee children’s remote learning, including assisting logging in and out of all platforms, turning assignments in online and helping with school work. Our JSchooled remote learning program was one of the first of its kind in the country and was a model for many other programs that opened up in the community and at other JCCs. JSchooled ran from 7:30am – 2:00pm and had over 90 students enrolled from Grades K-7, housed in 9 classrooms or “pods.” In November 2020, the schools opened back up for in-person learning, but JSchooled remained open for the full school year of 2020-2021 for those not ready to return to school, in person. Families were extremely grateful that the DPJCC was there for them and their children in that time of need. 16

JCares Chair Dr. Diane Wilen founded the David Posnack JCC’s community action team, JCares, an initiative dedicated to cultivating a caring community both inside and outside the J’s walls. The program invites enthusiastic and energetic volunteers, regardless of their age, faith or abilities to make our local community a better and safer place. JCares often partners with both local and national organizations, contributing its resources toward making the largest social impact. JCares believes small actions can make a big difference. Our community action team of volunteers thrives in child learning services, feeding the senior community, mentoring the developmentally disabled, toy drives, food drives and environmental protection. Community Impact: School Supply Drives — Collected boxes of supplies for Broward Education Foundation. Beach Clean-Up — Teamed up with the Surfrider Foundation for a family beach clean-up day. Guest Reading Day – As part of Read Across America, volunteers and members of the JCC board of directors read and discussed books and the joy of reading with early childhood education students. Thanksgiving Food Drives — Provided home-bound seniors with a Thanksgiving basket of food. Holiday Toy and Gift Drives — Collected items for Children’s Harbor and Jewish Family Services. Treats for Seniors For Rosh Hashana — Delivered to seniors mini apple pies and cards handcrafted by JCC preschoolers and after-care participants. Purim Drive-Thru — provided baskets with treats and gifts to our Giborim participants. 19

40 Israeli and Latin Initiatives participants registered Our Latin initiative, featuring a new weekly session called Feliz 60+, provides activities and learning for the 60+ Latino community, inspires positive change and supports social relationships. In 25 addition to this program, there are Latino comedians and speakers that visit the David Posnack JCC throughout the year. participants each week Since the COVID pandemic began, Feliz 60+ activities have been virtual. This has been very beneficial for the participants who are able to enjoy a much-needed social interaction, even if it is online. 4“Since the Feliz 60+ Program started it has united a heretofore practically disenfranchised group: the over 60 Spanish speaking segment of the South Florida population.  The group has grown substantially since its beginnings. At present we have members from Argentina, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Cuba, among other countries. The program format is quite interesting, consisting of watching a movie one week followed by a group discussion the following week. The group discussions are enriched by the geographical diversity of the various members. The age segment allows people to incorporate into the group discussions many of their varied and rich life experiences, thus further enhancing the enjoyment of participating in the program. The overall experience is further improved by Miriam’s guiding of the group which clearly evidences her qualifications for this type of group management. The benefits of the Feliz 60+ Program were clearly manifested when the Coronavirus related mandated sheltering started. These virtual meetings provided a much-needed reprieve for this group of people thus reducing the otherwise overbearing feelings of sadness, loneliness, and potential possible depression associated with this quarantine. This is a group program which I hope I will have access to for years to come!” —Enrique Kozolchyk 21
