Background & HistoryThe J opened in 1983 and serves all residents of the community, regardless of ethnicity, age ordisability. Its premier special needs summer camp, Camp Giborim, serves over 150 children andyoung adults from 3 years and up. The mission of Camp Giborim, meaning “heroes” in Hebrew,is to offer a traditional recreational summer camp environment for special needs campers withautism, Down syndrome, developmental delays and various other disabilities. The camp is filledwith innovative activities and creative programming within a culture of inclusion.The special needs population expressed a need for a year-round program for youth and adults.The J, committed to meeting these needs, developed Giborim U (Gib U), a program offeringenrichment classes and social events.Giborim U MissionGiborim U is a program for children, teens and adults with special needs and includes courses in fitness, the arts, sports, recreation,life skills and health and wellness.
