Chai-ways • PAGE 3 The Gift That Keeps On Giving The David Posnack name that graces our J, plus many Jewish organizations throughout South Florida, has become synonymous with furthering causes for children. During his life, David shied away from accolades associated with his gifts. Instead, he quietly supported many individuals and organizations and left behind an incredible legacy. DAVID POSNACK was the youngest of Camp Giborim in 1993 three children born to immigrant parents. He grew up in the Lower East Side of New York City and spent many hours playing basketball with his best friend at the community center, an encounter that would inspire him later in life to help build a community center. David Posnack Family Foundation of Hollywood also partnered with Dr. Saul and Susan Singer to bring the JSmart Tech Center to the Susan & Saul Singer Early Childhood Learning Center. In 2019, the trustees named Posnack Family Foundation of Hollywood Camp Giborim (Giborim means “heroes” in Hebrew). This unique camp for children, teens and adults with special needs was founded in 1991. The J is one of the first organizations to offer an eight-week program that teaches life and socialization skills, plus is filled with a variety of camp activities including karate, swimming, yoga and field trips. Erenbaum remembered David as a man with a good sense of humor, a passion for quality and a love for children. Another close colleague described Posnack as a well-respected giant in the world of philanthropy. “He got so much pleasure out of giving.” Camp Giborim now BeFvoeuhrnleydrwaEeitrtpieholnansbyooaimnfugHmeoop, lnorlyentwshecoeohonfodetohwtl resuetPsuqotdueseienpnsamt, csieksnsFtaeemnily The JSmart Tech Center opened in the Saul & Susan Singer Early Childhood Learning Center in 2016. The JSmart Tech Center is filled with iPads, computers and computer tables which the children use to learn and develop their technology skills. Teachers utilize this space to enhance their lessons, giving kids hands on experience.
