4“I enjoy working out at the JCC for several reasons: the facility is immaculate and is cleaned in a constant sanitation schedule during the day, which is very important to me during these uncertain times. The J has an extensive selection of machines, free weights, fitness classes and other amenities to suit everybody’s needs. Most of all, when I walk through the doors I feel like family. From their wonderful staff to my fellow fitness enthusiasts; everyone is friendly and supportive of one another in our endeavors at the J. My only regret is that I did not become a member sooner.” —Howard Meltzer 4“The JCC is the place where my whole family belongs. I take fitness classes. My husband plays sports and my kids are in the after-school programs and camp. It fills my heart with joy seeing my kids learning more about the Jewish traditions while having fun at the J. I could not imagine my life without the JCC!” —Anonymous 4

JSummer Days: 145 Pivoting During the Pandemic campers were treated to a unique summer experience, J staff rose to the occasion, transforming our traditional Camp Kadima into JSummer Days when faced with the while operating within strict unprecedented challenge of offering exceptional summer programming during a pandemic. 145 campers were treated to a unique summer experience, while operating within strict Covid-19 guidelines. COVID-19 guidelines. Campers and counselors perfected “smiling eyes” behind their masks, enjoyed sealed meals and operated within smaller, more intimate groups. Even the younger campers experienced the joy of morning Flagpole via Zoom from classrooms! With the knowledge that field trips and separate premier camps would not be available, staff programmed extra outdoor activities such as soccer, gaga ball, and lots of swimming! Group size was capped at 10 and extra groups were added in order to accommodate all who wanted to attend. Groups were kept completely separate as per CDC guidelines enabling the J to foster a successful, cohesive camp environment. As one of the first in the area to offer a camp alternative during this difficult time, we were happy to be able to provide support for our families over the summer. Our preschool was also tasked with re-inventing its traditional summer camp. With the help of dedicated and amazingly adaptable teachers and staff, the preschool operated in-person and remotely on Zoom, enabling teachers to reach all campers no matter where they were. Administration went above and beyond COVID-19 guidelines to keep campers and staff safe and healthy by: 4 Installing plexiglass dividers in classrooms to promote safe distancing 4 Conducting all specialty classes on Zoom 4 L imiting access to preschool area to staff and campers only 4 Installing UV lights and an electrostatic machine to kill bacteria and viruses Throughout the summer, the creative staff designed a weekly, fun and engaging box of “remote” activities and crafts for those unable to attend in person that parents could pick up from school. Children at home participated in activities via Zoom so they, too, had the camp experience. The kids loved it —at home and at the J. The ability to implement a beautifully orchestrated, parallel learning experience demonstrates the out-of-the box, WE CAN DO IT attitude we’ve come to expect from our wonderful, hard-working staff and administration. 10

Gib U and Posnack Family 160+ Foundation Camp Giborim Posnack Foundation In 1991 the David Posnack JCC formed Giborim, a division of the JCC’s traditional summer camp, but specifically Camp Giborim participants for individuals with developmental disabilities. That first summer, Giborim (a word meaning heroes in Hebrew) had 15 campers enrolled. Since then enrollment has increased to 164 campers, limited only by facility space and 68+ monetary resources. The Posnack Family Foundation of Hollywood named Camp Giborim in 2019. The Posnack Family Foundation Camp Giborim is a social, recreational, language-based program. Over 90% of Giborim U participants due to campers and staff return every summer for the opportunity to put all the stressors of the school year aside and just the COVID-19 Pandemic in-person have fun! All campers participate in a variety of camp activities that include karate, swimming, yoga and field trips. These strengthen socialization skills, culinary skills, financial accountability and independence. Gib U also features monthly “Sunday Socials,” where participants and their families enjoy activities on and off the J campus. Scholarship dollars given out In the winter of 2019, Gib U opened the Gib Shop. This pop-up kiosk offers a variety of products, many made by those with developmental disabilities. Family 6 Mishpacha, or family in Hebrew, is a core priority of ours here at the David Posnack JCC. We celebrate holidays such as Hanukkah, Sukkot and Purim together. We huge holiday celebrations bring community together. We laugh, we bond, and we grow together. Under and family events the same umbrella of togetherness, there is no age limit! We celebrate our families with JFAM: inclusive family programming that focuses on engaging the larger Jewish community within Broward County. Families are able to participate in a host of events just for them. JFAM provides a seamless way to meet and socialize with others in the same stage of life. One perk for David Posnack JCC members is Parents Night Out! Kids currently enrolled in the Singer Early Childhood Learning Center (age 1 through pre-K) and elementary kids in kindergarten and up are invited to have a fun-filled night at the J while their parents hit the town with the comfort of knowing their children are having fun with friends in a secure environment. Adults 13,000+ The David Posnack JCC gives adults a place to belong. We plan events and programs that are educational, cultural, hot, nutritious lunches stimulating and just plain fun. Social connection and community are crucial factors for adult independence. That’s served to seniors at the why we had close to 410 adults engage on a monthly basis with lunches, weekly programs and special events. The weekday lunch program most popular classes offered: mah-jongg & canasta, current events, studio art, Growing Wiser and knitting. We 12 were able to quickly move all of our classes to a ZOOM platform. We worked with all of our facilitators to educate them on ZOOM and the first few weeks worked with the participants to make sure they could access the classes. free Parkinson’s Foundation Within a week, we had access and a regular schedule for Brain Games, Bereavement, Coffee Talk, Current Events, classes offered per week Feliz 60, Growing Wiser and Jean Leighton Art Studio. This made the transition easy as the participants with the disease were able to click on the link to connect. We found that we not only connected with our local community, but our snowbirds were able to stay connected and we made new friends around the country as the participants told 5 them about the ZOOM classes. We also worked with our partners at LLI (Lifelong Learning Institute) and IJKL (Institute for Jewish Knowledge and Learning) to provide links to their online programs. As well, we set up a site day trips (including to on our webpage that listed other programs that were available by zoom – these included links to everything at Morikami Gardens, Elliot the DPJCC plus lectures, instructional classes, information about COVID, information about stores and hours of Car Museum and matinees operation and of course entertainment, all available by clicking on a link. at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts) For our participants who attended our lunch program, we immediately changed our program to home delivery. With the aid of our caterer Sterling Kosher Caterers, we provided seven days of frozen meals each week. We called each of the participants in the program to ascertain their needs and were able to help them at this difficult time. We began making phone calls to check in and keep our lunch participants connected. These weekly phone calls were a lifeline for many who did not have family locally and we were able to provide them not only with needed information, but helped them maintain some of the routine they were used to with their participation in the program. We also tried to maintain routine by continuing Shabbat programming. We had our entertainers join us weekly on ZOOM for some music and Shabbat prayers. We also found ZOOM a wonderful tool to use for special moments like Passover with Rabbi Andrew Jacobs and Cantor Debbie Hafetz leading the Seder and both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day get-togethers. 4”I just needed to send you a quick note telling you how much I enjoy the classes and trips. Everyone in the Adult Department is so caring, and treats everyone like we were family. After leaving Soref I was missing a JCC family, and so happily found Posnack. Thank you for all for all the wonderful events”. —Nancy Ross 14
