Granite's ham. Farmers defeated Hillcrest 18-13, but a late Hillcrest drive almost won the game when a Todd Vincent-to-Ryan Olsen pass from the three yard line was caught just outside the end zone. Defense was the name of the game during region play, as Hillcrest had a pedect 5-0 record, and had three shut- outs. The Huskies defeated Provo 27- 20 in overtime, as Todd Vincent scored on a 7 yard keeper to win the game. Kevin Petersen scored three touchdowns in the game. In the sec- ond game, Hillcrest defeated Brigh- ton, 19-0, for the first win over Brigh- ton in three years. Ryan Olsen, Kevin Petersen, and Mike Fullmer scored, while Andy Cox had two intercep- tions. The Homecoming game against Orem was a tough struggle, with a super defensive effort, Hillcrest won 10-0. Against Kearns, who was rated to finish first in the league, (whereas Hillcrest was rated last), Hillcrest bat- tled to claim a region tide. The Husk- ies defeated Kearns 9-7 on a Dave Leavitt touchdown and a Todd Vin- cent field goal. Outstanding on defense in this game were Jim White- head, Craig Fackrell, Randy Vranes, and Mark Padjen. The last game of Region Four play was against Gran- ger. Hillcrest won 27-0, to register its third shutout in league play and its fourth of the season. The Defense was superb as safety Kirby Jensen had three interceptions and Randy Vranes recovered two fumbles. Although there were exceptional individual efforts, the successful season was accomplished by strong team work. 126

Girls Win First Basketball 9tate Title .Prep ga After region competition, the girls' ba ketball team had two weeks to pre- '\"state pare for some of the toughe t team cage tilt in the state. It took mental and physical work to obtain what had to be learned. Many had the attitude that, \"We work not only to acquire, but to become.\" Their pride meant more than just the trophy, they had to have the name of a champion. And just that name was worth all the work. Showing the Hu ky Pride, every individual, as an athlete, out on the court trived for the ultimate goal of victory.
