HARVEY A Breed Beyond If you think being the mascot is all fun and games, you got another think coming! During the summer, mascots are expected to go to the U. S. A . (Unit· ed Spirit Association) camp held at Utah State. Harvey Husky, alias Kristy Mar· tinez, obtained the spirit stick twice, bringing it home the second time. Kick· ing off the year at the football games, then tipping off at the basketball games, Harvey proved to be the hairiest athletic supporter around! Aside from promot· ing spirit at the games and entertaining little kids, the mascot is involved in the assemblies. \" I sweat like a dog! \" But Kristy feels that all the hard work is well worth it. She expresses her appreciation to all those involved, and to the whole studentbody for their helpful support. 1) Kristy Martinez, the lady behind the dog. 2) Harvey represents the braun and power of H.H .S '.·-.~'I.I'~:I':'/.. 2 - -...... --- 204 -'-~-·ASCOT --

An enthusistic audience was thrilled at the return of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. With their summer home-movie display and their humorous antics, they were well received once again at Hillcrest. Intro- duced at this assembly were past Mr. Hillcrests chosen this year by the SBO's. The names Haws, Clayton, and Olsen were spotlighted in other years as well as this one .The spirit Leaders and some Drill Team alumni performed, showing their stuff one more time for the Huskie crowd. By far the most memorable events of this assembly, however, were the introducing of the 1983 Queen candidates, and the sing-of the theme song - · ever Gonna Let You Go.' CURRE T EVE TS

Ssssizzlin '! The events of 1983 and 1984 heated up a world that was al- ready baking in an explosive oven . While the Nation at Risk report started a fire of frenzy in the educational sys- tem, there were a few good things that happened at home in the United States. Reaganomics continued on its success- ful path, keeping interest rates low and dropping the unemployment rate. The Space Shuttle took off twice, loaded once with a scientific experiment from nearby Brighton students. The Raiders won the Superbowl 38·9 over the Reds- kins (way to go West Coast!) Some not- so-terrific events occurred in America during 83-84, too. James Watt, Secre- tary of Interior, resigned after having made one too many crude speeches, and the Bell System broke up, leaving AT&T in a frenzy . The movie The Day After ignited concern over the possible effects of nuclear war. Around the world, war lingered in a hot grease pan, ready to fry at the slightest amount of friction . The U.S. asserted its military power with the invasion of both Gren- ada and Lebanon . The Soviet Union walked out of the Arms Limitation talks, and Yuri Andropov conveniently disappeared from the public eye, said to be \" ILL. \" The 1984 Winter Olympics started February 6, and were held in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. The United States geared up for the summer Olympics. The Coliseum in Los Angeles, California was prepared once again to \" hold the gold.\" Lingering the whole time in the back- ground was George Orwell 's novel - 1984. After all , this is the year 1984. What events lie ahead? Will the world boil in its kettle of blackness? Will the fire of patriotism that burns within each country become the center of a massive bonfire of war and corruption? Will there be a nuclear war? And will there be . . . A DAY AFTER???
