SERVICING We recommended that AQUAVENT are serviced annually to ensure that the internal strainers are clean and to ensure they are in full working order. Servicing during system commissioning is also recommended as it is not uncommon to find debris from the system installation has collected in the valve. They are easy to access for servicing. If the sprinkler system is activated a control signal from the fire sprinkler flow switch is received by the PDV system, the controller then tells the motorised valve to close. This isolates the flow of water into the domestic cold water riser enabling the booster set to pump all the available water to the sprinklers riser. The Enhanced PDV-E system holds the valve closed until manually reset (once the fire brigade has handed the building back to owner). GOOD TO KNOW The valve can also stop the domestic flow when the break tank level gets too low. This allows the minimum tank volume, as recommended by BS9251:2021, to be retained for sprinkler operation. COVID-19 Response for HMP Prison Service With limitations in the UK Prison service well documented, COVID 19 presented a particular challenge to the operators of prisons around the county. Steps needed to be taken to ensure the safety of both prisoners and staff which resulted in an additional temporary building to be constructed,to improve social distancing and enable effective isolation of those infected. Each structure naturally requires amenities such as running water and electricity. Part of the increased supply of facilities required a number of cold water boosting sets to be specified, designed and built on a particularly short lead time. Stuart Turner received an enquiry for three sets on a Friday. We had a conversation with the contractor on site to gain all the information required and returned quotes later that evening. An order was placed early Monday in order to have the completed sets despatched on Wednesday, ready for delivery and installation on Thursday. Dimensionally Interchangeable Booster Set Following an urgent enquiry for a bespoke build for a large hotel chain, our Technical Product Director Jonathan Gray was in the area and managed to visit the site on the day of installation. The issue was a large old booster set that required de- commissioning and removing from the plant room before the new SP3V-22SV04F040T-MARB/100 could be sited and installed. The contractor wasn’t allowed to turn the water off until 10.00 am and was instructed that the water needed to be back on by 15.00 at the latest, as the hotel had key workers as guests. So the pressure really was on! The team had the water back on to the hotel by lunch time, 2 hours to be exact from start to finish. This shows the big advantage of having a bespoke booster set that will fit straight in especially when it uses large DN100 pipe work.
