Conference OverviewSustainable water supply and sanitation is a critical area in India’s urbanization drive. Various nationalinitiatives mare currently underway to tackle the current challenges in water scarcity, the impact ofclimate change & adaptation, the increasing demand in providing quality water and providing effectivesanitation for the billions of inhabitants. Nispana in association with CDD Society India successfullylaunched the 3rd National Summit Sustainable Water & Sanitation 2018 at the Sheraton Grand,Bengaluru today. The two day summit was inaugurated by Sri. Eshwara Khandre, Honorable Ministerof Municipal Administration & the event was supported by Sri. Anjum Parvez, Secretary, UrbanDevelopment Department, Dr. Sreedevi, Director Municipal Administration, Govt. of Telangana, ThiruPrakash Govindsamy, Director Municipal Administration, Govt. of Tamilnadu and other distinguishedguests and personalities. Municipal Commissioners, Mayors, senior officials from various states werepart of this immense gathering.This two day forum was supported by the Swacchh Bharath Mission, AMRUT and the Ministry ofHousing & Urban Affairs, Govt. of India. ARGHYAM were the Gold Partners while The NFSSMAlliance featured as Partner; the Bangalore Urban Water Supply & Sewerage Board (BWSSB) &the Hyderabad Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) were the State Jal Board Partners.SATO featured as the Sanitation Partners; Prince Piping Systems as Networking Solution Provider;Kamstrup Metering Solutions as Smart Metering Partners while Shubam Aqualink & Tata Projectsfeatured as Associate Partners. Khandre emphasizedthe need of effective water resource management and also the intitiatives towards fecal sludgemanagement in Karnataka. He also announced sanctions by the Govt. of Karnataka towards thissector. He also visited the exhibition stalls and interacted with the speakers and delegates. Some ofthe most vibrant NGO’s & organizations working closely with the Water & Sanitation sector in Indialike Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation(BMGF), DASRA WaterAid, Sydney Water, Tamilnadu WaterInvestment Company, ASCI, CEPT University, IIHS, GVMC and more were part of this immensegathering. Over 300 participants attended the summit from more than 65 plus of cities, towns andwater & sanitation boards from all across India. The participants also took the Swacchta Pledge topromote cleanliness & move towards a cleaner India.The summit was attended by 350 plus delegates and hosted more than 30+ speakers who presentedvisionary presentations and excellent case studies and joined in interactive panel discussions. Thisbrought out meaningful debates and deliberations. The summit was also an excellent platform for allthe municipalities to interact, network, share, innovate and ideate. The highlights of the opening daywas an excellent case study on Water Harvesting presented by Dr. Rajendra Singh (Waterman ofIndia) and an interesting keynote from Mr. Ravi Narayanan – Chair, Asia Pacific Water Forum.The second day focused on Sustainable Sanitation & Fecal Sludge Management spearheaded by apresentation from Ms. Madhu Krishna, Country Head, WASH from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation(BMGF) along with state of the art case studies by Ms. Utkarsha Kavadi from the AIILSG followed byan interactive discussion moderated by Mr. Krishnan Hariharan from DASRA and a panel discussionon Groundwater & Sanitation moderated by Prof. Vishwanath from BIOME. Both these interactivesessions saw huge participation from the attending delegates. A special field trip to the DevanahalliSewage treatment plant was also arranged for interested participants. The summit concluded witha high note while setting huge expectation for the next edition. Furthermore, the proceedings ofthe summit will be shared to all relevant government and regulatory authorities and participants toimplement the learning of this programme.
