Philips Lighting Write-up for Smart Cities ConferencePhilips lighting Professional Specification Manager for Middle East and Turkey, Anissa Abbou, tookconference attendees through a workshop on responsive cities at the Smart Cities Conference in Riyadh. The aim of the workshop was to give the attendees an in-depth look into how digital lighting is shapingtomorrow’s sustainable cities. Globally, Philips Lighting is committed to unlocking the extraordinary potential of light for brighter lives and a better world. Lighting currently contributes approximately 17% of all energy consumption in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The switch to Philips smart city connected systems has proven to present more than 50% savings in expenditures and significant reduction in carbon emissions. Philips Lighting is working with authorities around the world in this regard to enable a wider reach of smart applications and solutions across a wide spectrum. A great example of this is the public-privatepartnership Philips Lighting signed with the Buenos Aires mayor Mauricio Macri where Philips Lightinghad also partnered with SAP to offer cities a 360-degree view of data using the SAP HANA platform. The platform collects data from different city departments such as street lighting and traffic lights. Thedata is shared through a single city dashboard that enables Philips Lighting’s CityTouch to remotelymonitor, switch, and dim each light point in the network, optimizing energy consumption while creatingsafe conditions for both vehicles and pedestrians. The Argentinean capital today benefits from a scalable lighting solution, combining energy-efficient LEDluminaires with sophisticated lighting management from CityTouch.
