t tt .\\ Turtles nita was excited. Tonight, the baby turtles would hatch. Her father was going to take her to the beach to see them. It was very dark. Anita and her father took their torches and carefully went to the beach. Her father asked her not to make any noise, and do what he told her. Turtles are bom on the beach, very close to the water. After hatching, they quickly rush towards the sea' Anita and her father waited quiedy in the dark. There was only the dim light from just one ofthe torches' Finally, there it was- the frst baby turtle ! It was so tiny!

i rn ' i Like most babies, it moved clumsily. It started to crawl towards the sea alone I Soon there were more baby turtles. All ofthem rushed towards the water. Anita and her iather remained ouiet. watching the wonderfirl scene. Suddenly a bunch ofseagulls swooped down and tried to pick up the baby turtles. Anita and her father shooed the birds away, waving their arms. Anita jumped with joy when the fust group ofbaby turtles reached the water, safe ftom the birds. But Anita wondered why the father or mother turtles did not come to proteat their babies. Her father smiled and explained \"Thatt just the way they are born. Mother turtles hide the eggs in the sand and leave. One evening, the king saw the river flowing towards the east.
