\"उन लोग ने एकदम नई सी यह साइ कल तु ह य दे द ?\" क पना ने हैरत से पूछा। वह उस साइ कल को देख रही थी जो अ मा वहाँ से लायी थी जहाँ वह काम करती थी। साइ कल एकदम नयी सी थी! अ मा ने कं धे उचकाय,े \"उनके ब चे के लए सरी साइ कल आ गई होगी!\" 2/17

क पना साइ कल पर चढ़ ही थी, क... ध म! वह गर पड़ी। भु हँस दया। \"तुम दो प हय पर टक नह रह सकत ! पहले तु ह साइ कल चलाना सीखना पड़ेगा,\" वह बोला। \"तमु मझु े सखा दो न,\" क पना गड़ गड़ायी। 3/17

तो हर शाम, कू ल से लौटने के बाद, वे बगं ल वाली सड़क पर जाने लगे। वहाँ यादा भीड़ नह होती। वहाँ तो बस बड़े-बड़े घर ह, बड़े-बड़े कु वाले। 4/17

क पना और भु क ब ती के सभी ब चे खेलने के लए वह जाते । पहले दन, क पना साइ कल चलाने को उतावली थी। ले कन... 5/17

वह तो साइ कल चलाते ही ध म! से ज़मीन पर गर गई। उसके घटु न म जलन हो रही थी। वह रोना नह चाहती थी। ले कन रो पड़ी। देर तक उसक सस कयाँ क नह । 6/17

उसे लगा जसै े लड़के उसी पर हसँ रहे ह। ब त शम आयी। क पना साइ कल वह छोड़ कर घर भाग आयी। भु को साइ कल चलानी आती है। दो त के साथ े ट खेल लेने के बाद... सरू ज डूबने के बाद... अ पा के मर मत क अपनी कान से घर लौट आने के बाद... वही घर ले आयगे ा। 7/17

\"तु हारी कट कै से फट गयी?\" क पना को देख अ मा ने पछू ा। \"म साइ कल से गर गयी, अ मा।\" क पना सबु कने लगी। अ मा बस एक आह भर कर रह गय । 8/17

क पना को साइ कल चलाना सीखते छ: दन हो चकु े ह। पर वह अब भी चलानी सीख नह पायी है। भु ने या कहा था? इस साइ कल के हसाब से वह ब त छोट ह!ै यानी यह साइ कल वह नह चला पाएगी। भु के कहने से या होता ह?ै क पना साइ कल चला कर दखाएगी!! 9/17

रात को क पना ने अ मा से एक गलास ध मागँ ा। उसक ट चर ने कहा था क ध पीने से ब चे लंबे-तगड़े होते ह। और क पना तो पहले से ही अपनी क ा यानी २-बी क सबसे लबं ी लड़क से बस ज़रा ही छोट ह।ै 10/17

वह वीनस व लय स जसै ी बनना चाहती है। क पना टे नस के बारे म कु छ नह जानती। ले कन भु ने एक बार उसे वीनस व लय स का पो टर दखाया था। \" कतनी ताक़तवर लगती ह!\" क पना के मँुह से नकला था। अगर क पना ताक़तवर बन जाएगी, तो उसे कोई परेशान नह करगे ा। क पना ने उस रात सोने से पहले ाथना क । वह रोज़ ऐसा नह करती। 11/17

अगली शाम क पना को प का यक न था क वह साइ कल चला लगे ी। उसने अपना लक लाल लप भी लगा रखा था। \"तुम मझु े ह के से धके ल कर साइ कल को छोड़ देना,\" उसने भु से कहा। भु ने ऐसा ही कया। क पना ने आँख बंद कर ल और पडै ल ढँूढने लगी। सनसनाती हवा उसके कान म घुसी जा रही थी। अचानक साइ कल सड़क पर लड़खड़ाई और फर... ध म! क पना गर पड़ी। फर से। 12/17

इस बार दद इतना बुरा था क वह सासँ भी नह ले पा रही थी। इस बार कोई नह हँसा। म णकं दन भी नह , जो कभी कसी क परवाह नह करता। 13/17

डॉ टर ब त कड़क थ । बलकु ल क पना के कू ल के सपल जसै ी। वह बोल,े \"तु हारे परै म बड़ी बुरी चोट लगी ह।ै \" \"जब तक यह ज़ म भर नह जाता तब तक तु ह इसका ब त यान रखना पड़ेगा,\" कहते ए डॉ टर ने अ मा को ढ़ेर सारी दवाइयाँ द । \"जब तक घाव भर नह जाते तब तक तुम साइ कल नह चलाओगी,\" अ मा ने कहा। क पना ने सर हलाया। \"साइ कल चला नह सकती तो या, उस पर बैठ तो सकती हो,\" भु ने कहा। \"कै स?े \" क पना ने पूछा। 14/17

अ पा उसे साइ कल दखाने लाय।े उसम पीछे बैठने के लए बलकु ल नया कै रयर लगा था। \"जब तमु डॉ टर के यहाँ थ , तब हमने यह लगवा ली थी!\" भु मु कु राया। \"ले कन म ज द ही इसे खदु चलाऊँ गी,\" क पना बोली। \"हाँ,\" भु ने कहा, \"तमु ज़ र इसे चलाओगी।\" 15/17

क पना साइ कल से गरी तो या आ? लोग आपसे कहते रहते ह क भले ही आपको सफलता न मल रही हो ले कन को शश ज़ र करते रहना चा हए। य ? को शश करते रहने से कभी-कभी आपको ऐसे नतीजे मल जाते ह जनके बारे म आप सोच तक नह रहे थे। ऐसा करने से आपको खदु के बारे म कु छ न कु छ ऐसा पता चलता है जो आप पहले नह जानते थे। अगर क पना पहले ही दन साइ कल चलाना सीख जाती, तो उसे कभी पता ही नह चलता क वह कतना प का इरादा कर के कसी काम को करती है! उसके प रवार को भी कभी उसक इस ख़ूबी का पता नह चलता। रोज़-रोज़ गलास भर-भर कर ध पीने के बाद जब क पना का क़द बढ़ जायेगा और वह ताक़तवर हो जाएगी, तब वह उस दन को याद करगे ी जब वह साइ कल से गर गयी थी। हो सकता है उसे यह दन तब याद आए जब उसे कोई ही ब त क ठन परी ा देनी हो या कसी पहाड़ पर चढ़ना हो। हो सकता है उसे साई कल वाली बात तब याद आये जब उसे के क बनाना हो या बाघ क फोटो ख चनी हो। और तब शायद क पना को साइ कल चलाना सीखते समय मला सबक याद आ जाये और उसे ह मत न हारने क सीख मल।े 17/17
