मीरा के कू ल वाले बस टॉप पर आज एक नयी लड़क दखी। सब ब चे उसे ही घरू रहे थे। पर कसी ने उससे बात नह क । कू ल बस आयी तो सब ब चे अपने अपने दो त के साथ बैठे । वह नयी लड़क अके ले ही बठै । 2/12

क ा म प चँ ने पर सलमा मस ने मीरा और उसके सहपा ठय से कहा, “देखो तो ज़रा, यहाँ कौन आया है? तु हारी नयी दो त!” और उस नयी लड़क क ओर इशारा कया। सब ब चे उस लड़क को मड़ु कर देखने लगे। “अरे! यह तो कु छ अलग- सी दखती ह।ै ” सलमा मस ने कहा क उ ह ज़नी के साथ यार से पशे आना चा हए और उसक मदद करनी चा हए। तो उसका नाम ज़नी था, सभी को पता चला। 3/12

​मीरा को याद आया क वह जब क ा म नयी-नयी आयी थी, तब न तो कसी ने उससे बात क थी और न ही कोई उसके साथ खेला था। उसने मु कराकर ज़नी को देखा। ज़नी भी उसे देखकर मु करायी। कला क क ा म मीरा ने अपनी रंगीन पे सल ज़नी को भी रगं भरने के लये द । आधी छु म दोन ने अपना दोपहर का भोजन साथ म खाया। बस म साथ बैठकर घर तक गए और शाम को भी साथ ही खेल । दोन प क दो त बन ग । 4/12

कु छ ब चे ज़नी का मज़ाक उड़ात।े कई बार उनम से कु छ ब चे ‘ वदेशी’ जैसे उ टे सीधे नाम से उसे बुलात।े मीरा गु से से च लाती, “वो भारतीय ह!ै ” पर सब के सब बस हसँ देते। ज़नी ःखी हो जाती। मीरा उसे समझाती, “अलग दखना या होना कोई गलत बात नह ह।ै ” मीरा को याद आया क जब भी मीरा के भाई को च मा लगने के कारण सरे ब चे चढ़ाया करते तो उसक माँ भी उसे समझाने के लए यही कहा करती थ। 5/12

एक दन सलमा मस ने ब च को एक नया ोजे ट दया। सब ब चे बड़े उ सा हत थ,े सवाय ज़नी के । “मीरा, म या क ँ ?” उसने पूछा। “परशे ान य होती हो ज़नी! अपने प रवार, यौहार या अपने घर के बारे म कु छ बोल दो बस,” मीरा ने कहा। “ले कन लोग मुझ पर हँसगे मीरा,” ज़नी बोली। “जब तमु बोलने लगो तब सफ़ उन लोग क ओर देखना जो तुमसे अ छा बताव करते ह,” मीरा ने उसे सलाह द । मीरा को अपनी माँ क सखाई ई बात याद आयी। 6/12

जब वह ख़ास दन आया, क ा म ब त जोश था। सलमा मस सबक अलग-अलग वशे -भषू ा म फ़ोटो ख च रही थ । ज़नी कह भी नज़र नह आ रही थी। बस टॉप पर भी नह दखी थी। मीरा को परू ी आशा थी क ज़नी इस वशेष दन पर ज़ र आएगी। काय म आर भ आ। 7/12

पाथ ने पार प रक गुजराती अगं रखा चोन पहना आ था। उसक जुड़वाँ बहन ने च नया चोली पहनी थी। दोन ने मलकर गरबा नृ य कया। वीणा ने अपनी मातृभाषा त मल म वतं ता के बारे म एक गाना गाया। 8/12

सरे ब च ने भी अपने यौहार, परंपरा, भोजन और स य के बारे म चचा क । जब मीरा क बारी आयी, उसने अपने ज म थान राज थान के रजवाड़ के बारे म एक लाइड शो ततु कया। तभी अचानक कसी ने एक ऊँ ची सी टोपी पहनकर क ा म वशे कया। 9/12

अर,े यह तो ज़नी है! इस पहनावे म कोई उसे पहचान ही नह पाया। पर मीरा समझ गयी क ज़नी कु छ घबराई ई है। “म मज़ोरम से ँ जो भारत के उ तीस रा य म से एक ह,ै ” ज़नी ने शु आत क । सब लोग यान से सुनने लगे। उ ह ने तो ज़नी को बोलते ए सुना ही नह था। “मेरे पहनावे को पआु नचै कहते ह। अब म आपको एक मज़ो नृ य जसे छेइलम कहते ह, वह दखाऊँ गी।” 10/12

सलमा मस ने सगं ीत चालू कया। ज़नी ने बड़े ही मोहक ढंग से और परू े आनंद से नाचना शु कया। कु छ ब च को हँसी आयी पर उसने उनक परवाह नह क । आन द से भरपूर नाचती रही। उसे कोई रोकने वाला नह था। सलमा मस भी उसके साथ हो ल । कु छ और ब चे भी साथ म जुड़ गए। बाक लोग, मीरा क तरह, ताली बजाकर ताल के साथ झूमने लगे। सब लोग ख़बू म ती म थे। 11/12

जब संगीत थमा, ज़नी भी क गयी। क ा म एकदम चु पी छा गयी। सलमा मस ने उसक ख़बू वाहवाही क । पूरी क ा ने ता लय से साथ दया। बस म वापस जाते ए ज़नी ब त ही खुश थी। “तुम ठ क कहती हो मीरा। सर से अलग दखना कोई बरु ी बात नह ह।ै ” अब कोई भी ज़नी को परेशान नह करता। अब वह उनम से ही एक है। 12/12
