WCJC Award for Excellence in Teaching 2022 Johnson Cherukara was awarded the Wharton County Junior College Award for Excellence in Teaching for the 2021-2022 academic year at the Annual Commencement Ceremonies by the college president Mrs. Betty McCrohan. Johnson is an instructor of Biology teaching Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Microbiology, and General Biology. Mr. Cherukara received his B.S. degree in 1985 from St. Joseph’s College (Bangalore University) in India. He then earned his M.S. degree in Zoology from Kumaun University. He started his teaching career as a lecturer in Zoology at St. Stephen’s College Uzhavoor, Kerala, India. He also worked as an associate teacher in the Houston Independent School District. He has been working with Wharton County Junior College as an instructor of Biology since 2005. He is a member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and American Society for Microbiology (ASM). He is also a member of the Texas Community College Teachers Association (TCCTA). Furthermore, he is honored to have received the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) award in Austin, Texas during the Spring of 2015. Johnson and his family have been living in Houston, Texas since 1990. Besides his teaching career, he is an active member of the Houston Knanaya Catholic Society. He has served as President, Secretary, and as a Liaison Board Member for HKCS. He is also a member of the St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Forane Church, Houston. He has served as the Director of Religious Education (DRE) and as a Sunday School Teacher for several years. His hobbies include spending time with his immediate and extended family. He is an avid fisherman and gardener. He is married to Shaiby Cherukara who works as a Registered Nurse. He has three children Shauna, Sheena, and Joshua. Shauna started her fourth year of Optometry School at the University of Houston and Sheena is in her third year of Podiatry School in Miami, Florida. Joshua is pursuing a degree in Kinesiology at the University of Houston

SKCC President Benny Illikattil inaugurated the picnic. SKCC LB members took leadership in organizing this event. KCWFS took leadership in organizing game and sports activities. Food committee did an amazing job in providing delicious food of various items. Majority of SKCC members, including children and youth, participated and enjoyed the day.
