Language in Use Prepositions The mouse was running around in front of the house. It saw a crow flying in the sky. The mouse was scared and hid under a log which was behind the house. Prepositions are words that tell us where something is. A preposition links or connects nouns and pronouns with other words in a sentence. Let us learn about two new prepositions. beside – It refers to a thing or person that is at the side of another thing or person. Look at the questions again. They all begin with wh- words (what, where, who and when). These are also known as question words. We use them when we want to know an answer or get information about someone or something. There are two more question words, why and how.
