One flask can hold five cups of tea. How many cups of tea can the two flasks hold together? Solution: Capacity of one flask = 5 cups of tea Capacity of two flasks = 2 × 5 cups of tea = 10 cups of tea So, the two flasks can hold 10 cups of tea. Short Answer Questions 16) Ram filled 2 cans measuring 15 ℓ each, with water. It was poured into a drum, which can hold 95 ℓ. How much more water can be poured into the drum to fill it completely? Solution: Capacity of the drum = 95 ℓ Quantity of water in the two cans = 15 ℓ + 15 ℓ = 30 ℓ Difference in capacities = (95 – 30) ℓ = 65 ℓ So, the drum can hold 65 ℓ of water more. WB: Measurements 13

17) A milkman gave 1 ℓ of milk each to 8 households. He had 2 ℓ of milk leftover. How much milk did he have in all? Solution: Number of households receiving milk = 8 Quantity of milk given = 1 ℓ × 8 = 8 ℓ Quantity of milk leftover = 2 ℓ Total milk he had = 8 ℓ + 2 ℓ = 10 ℓ. So, the milkman had 10 ℓ of milk in all. Higher Order Thinking Skills (H.O.T.S.) Short Answer Question 18) Maya has an 800 mℓ water jug. She has filled it with 600 mℓ of water. She drank 200 mℓ water from it. What quantity of water will she need to add to the jug to fill it completely? Solution: Total capacity of jug = 800 mℓ Maya filled 600 mℓ of water. She drank 200 mℓ of it. Water left in jug = 600 mℓ – 200 mℓ = 400 mℓ Total water needed to refill = 800 mℓ – 400 mℓ = 400 mℓ. So, Maya needs to add 400 mℓ of water to fill the jug completely. 14

Short Answer Questions 16) The number of fruits with Shyam is as given here. If 1 fruit represents 3 fruits, how many fruits does he have in all? Solution: = 3 × 3 = 9; =2×3=6 Total number of fruits with Shyam = 9 + 6 = 15 fruits So, Shyam has 15 fruits in all. 17) The students’ favourite ice cream flavours are shown in the pictograph. Look at the table and answer the following questions. Key: 1 ice cream represents 2 ice creams Ice cream flavour Number Chocolate ice cream Strawberry ice cream Butterscotch ice cream WB: Data Handling 21

a) How many chocolate ice creams are there? b) Which ice cream is less popular - chocolate or butterscotch? Solution: a) 1 ice cream represents 2 ice creams. So, 3 chocolate ice creams = 3 × 2 = 6 chocolate ice creams b) 1 ice cream represents 2 ice creams. So, 2 butterscotch ice creams = 2 × 2 = 4 butterscotch ice creams. As 6 chocolate ice creams > 4 butterscotch ice creams, butterscotch ice cream is less popular. Higher Order Thinking Skills (H.O.T.S.) Short Answer Question 18) The number of pizzas prepared by Julie, Rupa and Hari are as shown in the pictograph. Observe the given pictograph and answer the questions. Pizzas prepared by 3 friends Julie Rupa Hari 22

Key: = 2 pizzas a) How many pizzas does each person prepare? b) How many more pizzas were prepared by Julie than Rupa? Solution: a) Julie = 3 × 2 = 6 pizzas, Rupa = 2 × 2 = 4 pizzas, Hari = 1 × 2 = 2 pizzas b) Number of pizzas prepared by Julie = 6 pizzas Number of pizzas prepared by Rupa = 4 pizzas Their difference = 6 – 4 = 2 pizzas So, Julie prepared 2 pizzas more than Rupa. : Data Handling 23
