Who Are Harrisons Accountancy? We specialise in offering accountancy services and business support for people within the film, television, and creative media industries. Led by Kenny & Dan Harrison, we offer solutions to make your finances easier to manage and understand. Our role is to make your life easier and allow you to do what you need to while we take the stress from what you don’t understand. We have been making a difference to our clients, who we like to refer to as our extended family for over 10 years.

In an evolving world, it is so important to have people and businesses around you that are flexible and able to help you achieve your goals. Your accountant needs to know everything about you to help you in the best ways. The relationship which you need to have with your accountant needs to be open and fluid. How can any accountant help you if they only talk to you once a year? We’re a family run business that set-up as Business Advisors and Accountants to do business in a different way. We don’t see our clients as clients, but as an extended family. We have worked together with media clients since 2000, we setup Harrison’s Accountancy in 2008 to start giving people a better experience of working with Accountants. Communication is the most important part of what we do. The more we talk to you, the more we can understand your requirements, and offer a service that is bespoke to you. A – We know what you can and cannot claim – you are unique, you have different expenses from other industries which you are allowed to claim. Q - How do you know what to claim? A – We have spent time understanding what you do, and this allows us to know what you can claim. We think outside of the box so it’s not just claiming what you do directly for your job. Q - Contract lengths, IR35 & how long can I work for one production? Can you help with these? A – As Media Specialists, we can talk to you about whether you can be self-employed based on the length of the contract, whether you fall inside IR35 (and what this means to you) and how you can continue to be self-employed. We understand everyone is different and we adjust accordingly, allowing us to advise you of what is best for you. Q - What else can you help with? A – As Media Experts, we can help you with all aspects of what you do. We always say we can help you with everything except two things: 1) Finding you work (we will point you in the right direction but won’t find you a job) 2) Doing your job We can help you with everything else. A – We know a lot of people in the industry, so trust, honesty and transparency are important. We draw on our industry knowledge to offer advice to our clients. What do you mean? A – We will explain things to you in simple and easy to understand way. We won’t use jargon or accountancy terms we don’t think you would understand or want to hear. How do you explain things to us? A – We always find a telephone call is a great way to discuss any questions you might have. The benefit of having a telephone call rather than email is that you can discuss all the information in depth. If the question and answer is simple, then we will reply with an easy-to- read email, like we do when it is time for you to pay your tax. So how do I pay my tax? A – It is your responsibility to pay your tax on time, we can’t pay your tax for you. We will always send you an email outlining; the tax due, who to pay, how to pay and when it is due. We send reminders nearer to the time which the tax is due, so you don’t miss the deadline. How does talking your language help with being a TV & Media specialist? A – Since we understand what you are doing, we do everything to make your life easier. We give you very simple steps of how to manage your money as you go along so that you have no surprises. We can talk to you about TV grades, stresses on shoots, per diems for recces and best way to deal with expenses that you pay for. Communication is key within accountancy and media and as you know the Media Industry has a very particular vocabulary. Not everyone is able to understand the jargon used to explain your business but as Media Specialists, we are able to use terminology that can be understood and is specific to us. You will not need to try and explain what you mean as we have a vast knowledge of media. Being able to talk your language allows us to communicate easily and effectively ensuring that nothing is miss-understood or lost in translation, this saves both time and potential penalties. “My Accountant is so hard to get hold of, and I don’t get a response for weeks” This is a phrase that we hear so often when people are considering changing their accountants. This gives our profession a bad name and we don’t understand why it is so difficult to respond to people with answers to their questions. This is our favourite aspect of what we do. Q – How will I be looked after? A – We have a small team of staff that will look after you. You will have the main point of call which will be Kenny and a specific member of the team to help you. Q – Why do I have two main contacts? A – It is important that you get prompt responses to your questions. If you only had one contact, you may find yourself waiting for responses if they are out of the office. Your two contacts at Harrison’s Accountancy will talk regularly to make sure you are fully looked after. Q – What hours do you work? A – Our working hours are 7.30am to 5pm, but we will respond to urgent queries outside of this time. We understand the importance of a sustainable work/life balance and we always try to enforce this on our clients, so don’t be surprised if we tell you off for sending emails at 2am when you’re meant to be resting! Q – How do you communicate with us? A – Communication is so important to what we do. Communication is a two-way process so sending information to us is key for us helping you. We provide software to allow you to send us information daily. This allows us to keep you up to date and then we can give you advice based on where you are today. We make your life easier by providing you all the tools to make it easy for you to send us information. We can talk via email, Zoom, face to face or over the phone.

We want to make your life easier, and that’s what we are here to do. However, if there are things that we are not doing that you think would help, let us know. The more you talk to us, the better service we can offer you. Q – What do you mean by thinking outside of the box? A – We look at the whole picture to find what suits you. What works for one person does not always work for you. This is where having a relationship becomes important. The more we talk, the more value you receive and the better service you receive. Q – How does this help me? A - We won’t offer you a standard answer. We are here to bounce ideas off. We can help you solve problems rather than sticking your head in the sand and doing nothing.
