11016 Broad Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102 ‐ Phone 973‐621‐8900 ‐ Fax ‐ 973‐621‐1343 Website: nbcs.us Hello Friends and Welcome to our NBCS 46th Annual 2021 Rainbow Awards Gala! This evening marks the fourth of our virtual presentations to the NBCS community as we celebrate from the safety of our homes. We are excited to cheer for our Newark Boys Chorus members and their exciting music‐making! We also look forward to our planned opening in September when we believe it will be safe to once again gather in‐person. Tonight, we recognize our distinguished Honorees, see and hear from our students, experience highlights of student‐life at NBCS, and support the important work of the school. It is through YOUR commitments and care that we continue to offer our students powerful, life‐changing experiences without tuition. It is through your gifts that we offer the music and dedication of these boys to the world. Together, we are Newark Boys Chorus School! Our Honorees highlight three important themes including arts education, social justice, and public health disparity. Our distinguished guests have made significant achievements in these areas through their energy and commitment. NBCS is proud to have these Honorees with us tonight as we celebrate their accomplishments and I hope you will join me in thanking them for their continued focus on these vital issues facing our community. This has been an unusual year with the COVID pandemic changing our lives in unexpected and remarkable ways. Our students have worked through unimaginable obstacles, achieved important milestones in the academic and music settings, and become stronger, more mature young men during a most difficult time. The NBCS teachers have shown unwavering care for the welfare of our students and their instructional program. Through innovative strategies and tireless support, teachers ensured our boys’ growth. I am forever grateful! Looking ahead, we are excited about the coming year and in‐person instruction. We will remain on Broad Street while renovations move ahead on our future home on State Street. Our Capital Campaign has begun and we are thrilled to announce a recent gift of $1 million from the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey to fund renovations. Wow! It is an exciting time and your support and contributions go directly to the education of our students. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, administration, staff, and students, I thank you for joining us for this evening’s celebration. Please know you have made a tremendous impact on the lives of every Newark Boys Chorus School student. Thank you! With warm wishes for good health and peace, Paul Chapin, Head of School [email protected]

On behalf of the students at Newark Boys Chorus School, I would like to thank you for all of the support you have given us and I wanted you know the impact that your generosity have made in our personal and academic lives. I would like to share a few, short messages from my fellow brothers. Your philanthropy has allowed me to travel to places that I would have never imagined going. To see the mountains in Chile was like a dream come true not to mention zip lining for the first time in my life and boy was it scary! Luis Rodriguez 8 Grade thThanks so much again for your generous scholarship. Your benevolence has enabled me to find a home at NBCS and to receive an excellent education. I will never forget your generosity. I would not have been able to travel, take great classes, and make amazing friends if it were not for your kindness. Israel Archibald 7 Grade thMy First year at this school is great so far. It is different from any other school. My teachers and friends are nice all the time, and they are helpful and encouraging. At NBCS, I played piano for the very first time and I am learning so much about music and the different notes. When we sing and have our concerts, I know NBCS is special, and we (students) are special, too. I like going on all of the trips as well. In addition to learning to sing and play piano, at NBCS I’ve learned to be a better swimmer and how to ice skate! It’s so much better than any gym class at my old school! I also like that we learn math and reading, too, because those are my favorite school subjects. I’m very happy that I am a student at NBCS. I love my new school very much! Edward Young 4 Grade thPlease accept my sincerest thank you for this huge help allowing our dreams to come true. And I hope to be able to help future students achieve their academic and personal goals just as you have helped us. James Felton 8 Grade th♫♫Think of Me, Forget Me Not, REMEMBER ME, Wherever You Go ♫♫3
