Al-Haram Masjid in Makka City is one of the places where marble has been utilized in construction. Each type of natural marble evolves from different geological factors. The objective of this program was to create proper understanding about Halal accordingly to Islamic principles, in order to create the production line that is trustworthy for Muslim consumers. Assoc. Prof. Winai Dahlan, the founding director of The Halal Science Center, Chulalongkorn University, Assoc. Dr. Pakorn Priyakorn, Director of Halal Standard Institute of Thailand, Mr. Prachya Chimwiset, Deputy Director of Halal Standard Institute of Thailand, and other Islamic scholars, gave lectures in the topics relating to Halal science, Halal standard, and process of Halal certification. The lecture was given by Assoc. Prof. Winai Dahlan, Director of the Halal Science Center, Chulalongkorn University, and Dr. Maslan Tereh, Director of Tanto Hospital and the doctor of Crescent Medical and Public Health Society, in Facebook Live Fanpage of HSC.CU.CM. Both speakers mentioned every hot issue about the vaccine. Assoc. Prof. Winai gave an ending speech which says: “Hands are needed to be clean at all times. It’s true that you are safe at some level when you wear a face mask, but it is still very dangerous. Therefore, cleanliness is what matters the most.” 7

HALAL NEWS ที่่ป� รึึกษา และคณะทำำ�งานศููนย์์วิทิ ยาศาสตร์์ฮาลาล ได้้เข้า้ ร่่วมประชุุมโต๊๊ะกลมอาเซียี น-รััสเซียี : ความร่่วมมืือด้้านฮาลาล The Consultant and Working Team of the Halal Science Center Joined ASEAN-Russian Round Table Conference relating to Cooperation on Halal Matters. เมื่่�อวัันที่่� 27 พ.ค. 2564 ตั้้�งแต่่เวลา 14.00 -18.00 น. นางสาวสุุลิิดา หวัังจิิ ที่่�ปรึึกษา และคณะทำ�ำ งานศููนย์์วิิทยาศาสตร์์ฮาลาล จุุฬาลงกรณ์์มหาวิทิ ยาลัยั ได้้เข้้าร่่วมประชุุมโต๊๊ะกลมอาเซีียน-รััสเซีีย: ความร่่วมมืือด้้านฮาลาล โดยผู้�แ้ ทนรัสั เซียี จากหน่่วยงาน Ministry of Agriculture of Russia ได้้พููดถึึงศัักยภาพของรััสเซีียในการส่่งออกผลิิตภััณฑ์์ฮาลาลและประสบการณ์์ของรััสเซีียด้้านผลิิตภััณฑ์์ฮาลาลมาก กว่่า 20 ปีี ซึ่�่งได้้ส่่งออกไปหลายประเทศทั่่�วโลก ไม่่ว่่าจะเป็็นประเทศในกลุ่�ม GCC อิินโดนีีเซีีย มาเลเซีีย ทั้้�งนี้้�ประเทศรััสเซีียยัังเป็็นหนึ่่�งใน ผู้้�สัังเกตุุการณ์ใ์ นการประชุุม SMIIC ซึ่ง�่ จุุดประสงค์์หลักั ของการประชุมุ ครั้้�งนี้้� เพื่่�อขยายการส่่งออกของผลิติ ภัณั ฑ์์ฮาลาลให้้สอดคล้้องกัับแนว ปฏิิบััติิมาตรฐานอาหารฮาลาลในเอเชีียตะวัันออกเฉีียงใต้้ ซึ่�่งผู้้�แทนอาเซีียนจากประเทศต่่างๆไม่่ว่่าจะเป็็นอิินโดนีีเซีีย บรููไน มาเลเซีีย และ สิงิ คโปร์ไ์ ด้้แนะนำ�ำ การมาตรฐานต่า่ งๆของประเทศให้้แก่ผ่ ู้แ้� ทนรัสั เซียี เพื่่อ� ให้้ความร่ว่ มมือื ด้้านฮาลาลระหว่า่ งรัสั เซียี และประเทศต่า่ งๆในกลุ่�ม อาเซีียนเป็็นไปอย่่างมีีประสิิทธิิภาพ ทั้้�งนี้้�นางสาวสุลุ ิดิ า หวังั จิิ ยังั ได้้กล่า่ วว่่าที่่�ผ่่านมาทางศวฮ.ได้้มีีการลงนามสัญั ญาความร่ว่ มมือื กัับหน่่วยงาน International Center for Halal Standardization and Certification, Russian Federation จึงึ หวังั ว่า่ เราจะสามารถต่อ่ ยอด MOU ที่่�เซ็็นแล้้วนั้้�นให้้มีคี วามร่ว่ มมืือ อย่า่ งเป็น็ รููปธรรม จากการที่่ป� ระเทศไทยใช้้วิทิ ยาศาสตร์ส์ นับั สนุนุ กระบวนการรับั รองฮาลาลของไทย อีกี ทั้้ง� ในปัจั จุบุ ันั ประเทศไทยเป็น็ ประธาน คณะทำำ�งานผลิิตภััณฑ์์และบริกิ ารฮาลาลใน IMT-GT ศวฮ ในฐานะฝ่่ายปฏิิบััติิงานที่่ไ� ด้้รับั มอบหมายจึึงได้้เข้้าร่ว่ มการประชุุมในครั้้�งนี้้� On 27th May 2021, from 14.00-18.00, Miss Sulida Wangji, the consultant and working team of the Halal Science Center, Chulalongkorn University, joined the ASEAN-Russian round table conference relating to cooperation on Halal matters. The Russian representative from Ministry of Agriculture of Russia discussed about Russian’s potential in exporting Halal products and Russian’s experience in Halal products for more than 20 years. Russia exports Halal products to all over the globe, be it countries in GCC, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Russian is one of the observers in SMIIC. The main objective of this meeting was to expand Halal products exportation as it was stated in the Guidelines of Halal Food Standard in Southeast Asia. Representatives from ASEAN such as Indonesia, Brunei, and Singapore, came to present each one’s standard to Russian representative, in hope that the cooperation on Halal matters between Russia and ASEAN countries went on effectively. Miss Sulida Wangji added that the HSC has previously signed the MOU agreement with the International Center for Halal Standardization and Certification, Russian Federation. Thus, it is hoped that the signed MOU will bring about concrete cooperation. Thailand will further utilize science to support Halal certification process of the country. Currently, Thailand is the president of the working group on Halal products and services in IMT-GT. The Thassos smart marble has been installed in Makkah’s Grand Mosque (Al Masjid Al-Haram) more than 35 years, covering almost 1.5 million square meters [1]. What is special about this smart marble? The marble of Masjid Al-Haram contains dolomite as the major mineral phase in its composition (Figure 2). This dolomite result in high thermal conductivity and high quality of the marble. The high thermal conductivity dissipates the heat from the marble surface to the inner part of the marble quickly, thus, reducing temperature gradients in marble structures and enhance durability of the marble [2]. Moreover, the crystallographic symmetry of Masjid Al-Haram marble results in greater solar reflectivity compared to ordinary white marble (Figure 3).Thus, the extraordinary composition and unique thermophysical characteristics of this marble allow the marble remains cool during exposure to solar radiation. On the other hand, the thermophysical characteristics of concrete or asphalt turn out to be inferior to Thassos marble. For example, the exposure to those surfaces is tend to be hotter and unsafe for bare skin contact compared to Masjid Al-Haram marble [1]. This is the reason why the Thassos white marble was selected to be installed as an outdoor paving material of the Holy Grand Mosque (Al Masjid Al-Haram) where temperatures are warm throughout the year. As a result, visitors who come to perform their worship could experience the aesthetic beauty of the marble, and at the same time feel comfortable when touching the natural coolness of Thassos marble even during summer time.
