PAGE 28 ART EXHIBITION 2020 Annual Art Exhibition ‘Art Speaks Where Words Are Unable To Explain.’ Wednesday, the 26th of January, 2020, marked The Regent Secondary School’s annul Art exhibition in the school’s Library. While the framed watercolour works were easy to hang on the exhibit walls, the single mixed media sculpture made by Khaira AbdulRazaq, (Year 11 Congo), depicting a girl reading was superb. The artistic techniques chosen, such as lighting, contouring, calligraphy, realistic drawing and more, engaged the viewers in an understanding of what Art depicts. How well it communicates, how successful the artists master their chosen work, says a lot, about their talent and skills. In order to exhibit well, patience must be exercised. PAGE 32 UNDER 18 KARATE COMPETITION On the 29th of February, we had our 3rd Annual Karate Competition hosted by our prestigious school – The Regent Secondary School. All the karatekas in the Karate Alliance Club have all trained hard and by the end of the competition that day, most of them got trophies and medals. For the karatekas that have never competed before and then competed on Saturday 29th February, the blew the minds of all the judges and the audience for sure. In all the work they did, they managed to seek perfection of character which is one on my favourite sayings in the karate dojo Kun. It means to reach for perfection in everything you do or try to achieve in life. I believe that this is not only for karatekas but everyone should keep that in mind. I enjoyed it while it lasted and I can not wait till the next one. Morakinyo Akinola (Year 8 Benue; Karate Club Secretary) February 29th, 2020, a day to be remembered because of the various experiences many karatekas gained that day. On this fateful day, The Regent Secondary School hosted the third edition of its Annual Karate Competition for student-athletes under the age of 18, inviting karate dojos from far and wide within Nigeria. The competition itself was very successful, with its strong Kata performances and intense Kumite bouts. Furthermore, the event also did a fantastic job of engaging and exciting the audience, a phenomenon particularly evident during the finals. In summary, as all the karatekas left the event that evening, either with a medal or not, I can say that we all learnt something new about ourselves. Some of us learned about ways to better ourselves and our karate, and some of us pleasantly surprised ourselves with our capabilities. All in all, It was a great day.
