Use of crossovers also makes co-ordinating and running competitions to time very difficult. If you absolutely must cross-over cheerleaders for injury or other reasons you must have prior approval from the Programme Director. No to Moving Athletes Mid-season – we try to limit team movements, cheerleaders should stay in teams for a full year regardless of what new skills they get. Exceptions to this are where you have an injury, or a cheerleader leaves and it is too close to competition to rework the routine etc, again any mid-season movement must be approved by the Programme Director. No Team or Group Communications without Prior Approval – all communication is done centrally through head office. If you need a team or group email sent out please send it to the General Manager for pre-approval.4 8

Tips for transitioning cheerleaders to a new team• Prepare existing team members for the arrival of new cheerleaders by talking to them about try outs/team movements. Remember to make it clear that every cheerleader selected for a particular team is there for a reason and because you believe they are good enough to be there. Encourage existing team members to be welcoming to new team members. You may like to offer incentives to encourage good spirit such as conditioning passes, taking home a spirit stick or toy, giving out stickers or lollies.• Encourage parents and cheerleaders to come to either yourself or head office with any questions regarding try outs. DO NOT allow parents or cheerleaders to discuss or compare other cheerleaders or team placements.• After try outs be sure to arrange team bonding activities to help the new team gel, this is important for developing a strong unified team.Couple of other tips to consider when making upteams:• We do NOT skip cheerleaders levels• In senior age or open age teams, cheerleaders should be 12yrs or older 15 19

UNIVERSAL SCORING GUIDELINES for L1-5 GENERAL SCORING NOTES Majority: 1/2 +1 (Majority required to score in the medium or high range for difficulty.) For tumbling only: Tumbling skills will be accumula ve when determining majority. For stunts only: the total number of athletes will be divided by four when determining majority. For tosses only: the total number of athletes will be divided by five when determining majority. Compara ve Scoring: Scores are rela ve to performance at the day’s event compared to other teams in your division and/or level. Teams will no ce a variance in scores from event to event (i.e.—the best skill set executed that day will score the highest at that event). Points will be awarded in tenths (1/10). ONE HAND/ARM TUMBLING SKILLS (i.e. one hand/arm cartwheel, one hand/arm back handspring, etc…) ‐ When determining “Level Appropriate” skills in tumbling, one hand/arm tumbling skills will not be con‐ sidered. Also, one hand/arm tumbling skills will not be viewed or scored as higher difficulty when com‐ pared to their two hand equivalents. (i.e. one hand/arm back handspring = two hand/arm back hand‐ spring) Standing Tumbling ‐ When performing a Standing tumbling pass that con nues into a running tumbling pass, the Standing tumbling por on of the pass must actually be level appropriate to be considered a qualifying level appropriate skill for scoring purposes. (See “Suspended Flip”, “Braced Flip”)Assisted Tumbling: Any form of physical assistance to an individual performing a tumbling skill. This does not apply to gymnastic oriented “stunts” permitted at each level.Awesome: A stunt where a top person has both feet together in the hand(s) of the base(s). Also referred to as a \"Cupie.\"Back Walkover: A non-aerial tumbling skill where one moves backward into an arched position, with the hands making contact with the ground first, then rotates the hips over the head and lands on one foot/leg at a time.Ball – X A body position (usually during a toss) where the top person goes f rom a tucked position to a straddle/x-positionBackward Roll: A non-aerial tumbling skill where one rotates backward into/or through an inverted position by lifting the hips over the head and shoulders while curving the spine to create a motion similar to a ball “rolling” across the floor.Barrel Roll: See “Log Roll”.Base: A person who is in direct weight -bearing contact with the performance surface who provides support for another person. The person(s) that holds, lifts or tosses a top person into a stunt. Catcher: One of the person(s) responsible for the safe landing of a top person during a stunt.Chorus Line Flips A skill in which a cheerleader back flips between two other cheerleaders with locked arms and/or wrists. Coed Style A single base grabs the top person at the waist and tosses the top person while unassisted from ground level Connected Physical contact between two or more individuals performing tumbling skills Tumbling: simultaneously. Exception: A double cartwheel would be defined as a stunt. 48
Cradle: A release move in which catchers, with palms up, catch the top person by placing one arm under the back and the other under the thighs of the top person. The top person must land face up in a pike position.Cupie: See \"Awesome.\"Dirty Bird (D-Bird): Toss to a laid out X-position to the back of the base, through the base's legs and typically transitioning to a scooper.Dismount: The movement from a stunt or pyramid to a cradle or the performing surface. The movement from a cradle to the performing surface is not considered to be a dismount.Dive Roll: A forward roll wher e the feet leave the ground before the hands reach the ground.Double-Leg Stunt: See \"Stunt\".Double Cartwheel A partnered or paired cartwheel with hand/ankle or arm/thigh connection done simultaneously. Downward A stunt or pyramid in which an inverted top person’s center of gravity is moving toward Inversion: the performing surface.Downward Motion: The movement of one’s center of gravity towards the performing surface.Drop: Dropping to the knee, thigh, seat, front, back or split position onto the performing surface from a airborne position or inverted position without first bearing most of the weight on the hands/feet which breaks the impact of the drop.Eighteen Inches The maximum distance allowed between the highest point of a base’s extended arm andabove Extended the lowest point of a top person’s body during a release move in Level 5 only. Arm Level:Entrance Skill: The beginning or mounting phase of a tumbling skill or stunt.Extended Arm The distance from the performing surface to the highest point of a base’s arm(s) when Level: standing upright with the arm(s) fully extended over the head. Extended arms do not necessarily define an “extended stunt”. See “Extended Stunt” for further clarification.Extended Position: A top person supported by a base(s) with fully extended arms. Extended arms do not necessarily define an “extended stunt”. See “Extended Stunt” for further clarification.Extended Stunt: When the entire body of the top person is extended in an upri ght position over the base(s). (Examples of stunts that are not considered “extended stunts”: Chairs, torches, flat backs, arm-n-arms and straddle lifts. These are stunts where the bases arms are extended overhead, but are NOT considered to be “extended stunts” since the height of the body of the top person is similar to a shoulder/prep level stunt.)
