This event continues Hillsborough Schools Foundation’s(HSF) tradition of supporting our schools and our childrensince 1980.Alongside HSF’s other activities, our Dinner Dance raisesmoney that empowers the ways in which our educatorswork to improve our children’s lives. CITIZEN OF THE YEAR Julie BordenThe Associated Parents’ Group of Hillsborough is proud to honorJulie Borden as this year's Citizen of the Year. Since moving toHillsborough in 1995, Julie Borden has been directly involvedwith nearly every aspect of our schools, town and greatercommunity.While her three children were students in our district,Julie served on both the West and Crocker Parent GroupExecutive Boards as well as serving on the Hillsborough SchoolsFoundation Board as New Family Liaison, Parent CampaignCo-Chair and HSF President. In 2005, Julie was elected to theHCSD Board of Trustees and served until 2009. She returned toserve on the Board of Trustees for seven months in 2011 after avacancy occurred on the board.In addition to all of the above, Julie has served on theHillsborough Recreation Commission, the San Mateo High SchoolFoundation, Stand By Our Schools Committee to Safeguard OurSchool, SMUHSD Budget Advisory Committee, and the Measure BSchool Bond Committee. Julie was a vital member of the TaskForce for a Sustainable Hillsborough and continues to serve ourtown on the Citizens Communication Advisory Committee. In thegreater community, Julie has been an active member and servedon the Board of the National Charity League as well as theHillsborough Auxiliary to Peninsula Family Services.Julie has been described as \"a role model for what it means togive back,\" \"the gold standard of volunteerism,\" and \"a selflessadvocate for our schools, our town and our community.\" We areso fortunate to have Julie Borden as a member of our communityand we are thrilled to honor her as Citizen of the Year.

COMMUNITY CARE AWARD Troy HagerThe Associated Parents’ Group of Hillsborough is honored topresent the Community Care Award to Troy Hager. Mr. Hager hasbeen a teacher in the Hillsborough City School District for 16years. The award winning HTV News program simply would not bethe outstanding program it is today without the dedication andexpertise of Troy Hager. Since the programs inception in 2000, Mr.Hager has \"continued to innovate, making it possible for the HTVNews program to reach more and more Hillsborough students andthe broader community through extensions such as theelementary school newscasts,\" stated Julia Davidson, former APGPresident. Mr. Hager was an integral member of the team whobrought the One-To-World Chromebook program to CrockerMiddle School. He continues to be a source of support andinformation for teachers, parents and students with regard toChromebooks at Crocker, all while maintaining the level ofexcellence we have come to appreciate from the HTV Newsprogram.Mr. Hager also serves as advisor to the Crocker Coding Club andhas served as a coach and on the Executive Board of HillsboroughAYSO. Mr. Hager has been described as \"a calm, steady, talentedcontributor to Crocker,\" and \"a teacher who not only valuescreativity and independence in his students, but actively fostersand instills these qualities in them.\" As stated by former NorthSchool and Crocker Middle School student Kate Davidson, \"Mr.Hager was fun, supportive, patient, and kind... He not only taughtme independence and responsibility, but he also gave metechnology skills that will be useful for me in years to come.\"
