Writing Read this myth from ancient Greece about Icarus and his father, Daedalus. What do you think happened in the end? Write an ending to this story. Daedalus was a brilliant inventor. King Minos of Crete asked Daedalus to build a maze that no one could leave once he or she entered it. However, he later found out that Daedalus had helped a young man enter and leave the maze. This made the king angry and he had Daedalus and his son, Icarus, imprisoned in a tower on the island. Daedalus thought of a plan to escape from the tower. He used feathers and wax to make two pairs of giant-sized wings. He used the wax to seal the feathers together. Both father and son practised flying with the heIp of the wings until they were good enough to fly away from the tower. Before leaving the tower, Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too high as the sun would melt the wax and the wings would be destroyed. 64 Unit 12: A Greek Hero © 2017 Scholastic Education International (S) Pte Ltd ISBN 978-981-47-8120-6
