It is governed bya five member Board of Commissioners elected to six year terms in biennial public elections. They receive no compensation for attendingmeetings. The terms of office are staggered so that no more than two Commissioners are elected at one time. The board establishesgeneral policies, adopts the budget and appropriation ordinance, and appoints the District Attorney and Director. Park Board meetings areheld on the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Park District Administration Building located at 105 S. Spruce St., Washington,Illinois. For more information, you may contact the Park District. - Mission Statement - To provide quality recreational programs, facilities and parks that meet the leisure needs and improve the quality of life for the residents of Washington.Dear Residents,As our summer programming is wrapping up, I would like to thank you for yourattendance and participation in our programs and special events. Our staff haveworked hard this year to put on events such as Cleanup Washington Day, WashingtonLacrosse Invitational, and our Good Neighbor Days 5K. We will continue to address capital projects that have been included in this year’sbudget. These include upgrades and maintenance to ball diamonds, trails, and our Executive DirectorRecreation Facility. Brian TibbsWe have begun renovation to the ball diamond area of Oak Ridge Park. Renovationsto diamond #3 are underway and we hope to complete the other two diamonds in the next two years.Our staff has worked hard to put together another brochure full of programs and special events thatwe hope meet your interests. Be sure to check out the Washington Arts Festival, Picnic in the Park, andget your team signed up for the Washington Amazing Race. While we continue to offer many of therecreation programs that you have come to enjoy, we are always looking for new offerings. And now part of Meadow ValleyPark has gone to the dogs with the creation of the Washington “Bark”District Off-Leash Dog Park. Through a number of generous donations including fencing from KeystoneWire Red Brand Fencing, Honeywell Turbo Technologies, and Peoria Brick andTile, the Park District has completed construction of the Off-Leash Dog Park.The Washington “Bark” District Off-Leash Dog Park Donations and brick purchases to the Washington “Bark” District may be made payable to the Washington Park DistrictFoundation. The Christmas season is upon us, Santa is making a special visit to Washington, Illinois to see you!!Each child will have an opportunity to speak to Santa so bring your own camera for a picture with Santa Claus. Acontinental style breakfast including donuts, rolls, bagels, juice, milk and coffee will be served.  All attendees mustpurchase a ticket to attend the breakfast (regardless if you plan to eat).  Santa will be available during the breakfasthours from 9- 11 AM. Pre- registration is highly recommended, although walk-ups will be accepted if space is available.Thanks to Washington Community Bank for your generous support of this event. Five Points will also show the movie Elf in the auditorium beginning at 10:30AM. Invite Santa to your home. The average home stay is ten to fifteen minutes. Santa will quickly listen to what the children would like for Christmas, have a few pictures taken, and then be on his merry way. The fee for the visit is $40 per household (maximum of 6 children). You almost never get an exact arrival time, so you should plan on being home between 1:00PM and 4:00 PM on Saturday, December 8th. Usually Santa will give you a call before he knocks on your door. We offera variety of fun activities ranging from playground and gym time to games and crafts in the classroom. Children are divided bygrade, Pre-K & K, 1st -2nd, 3rd and 4th-6th. Each room is arranged with grade appropriate activities. We have plenty of work-space to complete homework assignments if needed.An added benefit to enrolling your child in REACH is the availability and proximity to the many seasonal programs offered bythe Washington Park District. In the past, we have had many programs available during REACH hours. We have had participantsattend tumbling, basketball, volleyball, and drawing programs that occur at our facility. It is a great convenience for those workingparents who are unable to be in two places at once.REACH registration requires payment for August/September and/or transportation fee and the completion of the required parent’spacket available at the Washington Park District office located at 105 S. REACH Small Town... BIG Fun! • 15DAYQUEST ADVENTURES FOR FUN DAYS OFF SCHOOL!Washington Park District offers a fun day off school for children in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. All children are welcome!You do not need to be a part of our REACH program to participate. Dayquest days will involve a field trip or special activity which isincluded in the price. While the children are in our building, we offer an exciting program filled with a variety of fun activities rangingfrom outside play on our playground, time in our gym, to games and crafts in the classrooms. The rooms are set up with age appro-priate activities. We ask that you pre-register early so that we may plan our fun filled days and give our working parents confirmationthat they have a safe yet fun place for their children! BIG Fun! • 23WPD ELITE – Competitive Recreational Cheer & Tumbling TeamsThe Washington Park District offers programs and opportunities for kids of all ages and levels to get involved in a cheer ortumbling team. Our teams compete recreationally in cheer and/or tumbling competitions. This provides kids at any level wholove to tumble or cheer the opportunity to do a little more within the sport. Our ELITE programs give kids that love to tumbleand cheer the opportunity to be on a team and build self-confidence, strength, coordination, and a sense of accomplishmentand team unity. Being a part of the competitive teams can be very challenging but also very rewarding. There is a strong fo-cus on setting and accomplishing goals, and developing higher skill levels. Performing in front of large groups of people andreceiving awards gives the kids a sense of pride in their accomplishments.
